{"id":585104,"date":"2023-07-31T19:04:30","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T16:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/hunter-biden-associate-devon-archer-gives-closed-door-interview\/"},"modified":"2023-07-31T19:04:30","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T16:04:30","slug":"hunter-biden-associate-devon-archer-gives-closed-door-interview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/hunter-biden-associate-devon-archer-gives-closed-door-interview\/","title":{"rendered":"#Hunter Biden associate Devon Archer gives closed-door interview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/07\/ArcherDevon_073123ap.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Hunter Biden business associate Devon Archer said during closed door testimony that Hunter Biden included President Biden on a number of phone calls that presumably included\u00a0business associates, according to one lawmaker\u2019s account of the testimony, a revelation that is likely to fuel Republican attempts to link the president to his son\u2019s business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>But the Democratic lawmaker said that Archer\u2019s testimony to the House Oversight Committee did not show that the president was involved in Hunter Biden\u2019s business dealings.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe witness indicated that Hunter spoke to his father every day, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximately 20 times over the course of 10 year relationship, Hunter may have put his father on the phone with any number of different people, and they never once spoke about any business dealings,\u201d Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs he described it, it was all casual conversation, niceties, the weather, \u2018What\u2019s going on?\u2019\u201d Goldman said, adding that. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t a single conversation about any of the business dealings that Hunter had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who was also in the interview, told reporters that Archer had revealed new information, but declined to elaborate further.<\/p>\n<p>The readout of the testimony appears to back up House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer\u2019s (R-Ky.)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/23\/hunter-biden-put-then-vp-dad-joe-on-the-phone-with-business-associates-at-least-2-dozen-times-ex-partner-devon-archer-to-testify\/\">statement<\/a>\u00a0to the New York Post last week that he expected Archer to discuss the times he \u201chas witnessed Joe Biden meeting with Hunter Biden\u2019s overseas business partners when he was vice president, including on speakerphone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked last week about allegations that the president had communicated directly with his son\u2019s foreign business associates,\u00a0 White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the president\u00a0\u201cwas never in business with his son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The interview follows a letter from the Department of Justice over the weekend, regarding Archer\u2019s sentencing for an unrelated matter, that is adding to GOP claims of government obstruction of their investigation into the Biden family\u2019s business dealings \u2014 even as Archer\u2019s attorney beat down the speculation.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Justice Department (DOJ) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kyledcheney\/status\/1685686040894275584?s=20\">in its letter<\/a> requested that a judge set a date for Archer to start his one-year prison sentence <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/pr\/devon-archer-sentenced-year-and-day-prison-fraudulent-issuance-and-sale-more-60-million\">for his conviction<\/a>\u00a0for defrauding a Native American tribe, despite Archer\u2019s counsel saying it was \u201cpremature\u201d to do so because of an anticipated appeal and an \u201cerror\u201d in sentencing.<\/p>\n<p>That set off alarm bells in the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if this a coincidence, or if this is another example of the weaponization of the Department of Justice,\u201d House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6332139541112\">said Sunday on Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Other Republicans went further, accusing the DOJ of explicit interference in the GOP-led investigation. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattgaetz\/status\/1685680156927561728\">lawmakers should return<\/a>\u00a0from an August recess for emergency hearings if Archer did not show up.<\/p>\n<p>But Archer\u2019s attorney stressed the letter would not impact his planned interview, which had been rescheduled multiple times since Comer <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-subpoenas-devon-archer-to-appear-for-a-deposition-in-the-biden-family-investigation\/\">subpoenaed him in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware of speculation that the Department of Justice\u2019s weekend request to have Mr. Archer report to prison is an attempt by the Biden administration to intimidate him in advance of his meeting with the House Oversight Committee on Monday,\u201d Acher\u2019s lawyer Matthew Schwartz <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mls0066\/status\/1685788870271442944\">said in a Sunday statement<\/a>, first provided to Politico. \u201cTo be clear, Mr. Archer does not agree with that speculation. In any case, Mr. Archer will do what he has planned to do all along, which is to show up on Monday and to honestly answer the questions that are put to him by the Congressional investigators.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The DOJ said in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMikeJohnson\/status\/1685823122069504000?s=20\">subsequent letter<\/a>\u00a0that it was not requesting that Archer surrender before his expected congressional testimony.<\/p>\n<p>His appearance went on as scheduled. A smiling Archer did not answer shouted questions as he arrived at the interview with his lawyer Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The interview will consist of four hours of questioning divided evenly between Republicans and Democrats, and is expected to end mid-afternoon. In addition to Jordan and Goldman, Rep.
