{"id":585122,"date":"2023-07-31T23:03:04","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T20:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/talk-to-me-filmmakers-unpack-that-ending-and-talk-sequel-potential\/"},"modified":"2023-07-31T23:03:04","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T20:03:04","slug":"talk-to-me-filmmakers-unpack-that-ending-and-talk-sequel-potential","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/talk-to-me-filmmakers-unpack-that-ending-and-talk-sequel-potential\/","title":{"rendered":"#\u2018Talk to Me\u2019 Filmmakers Unpack That Ending and Talk Sequel Potential"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>[This story contains spoilers for A24\u2019s <em>Talk to Me<\/em>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Talk to Me<\/em>, the Australian horror film that racked up a $10 million box office haul this weekend, ends on a particularly disturbing note.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The protagonist Mia (Sophie Wilde) is now one of the spirits she summoned via an eerie embalmed hand, stuck in a purgatory of her own making, conjured by another group of people who now possess the spooky item that drove her to madness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The directors, twins Danny and Michael Philippou, want to leave a lot up for interpretation when it comes to their\u00a0 movie, which was picked up by A24 out of Sundance. But would they continue exploring the universe they created in a sequel? Possibly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cPart of me is like, \u2018Yeah, maybe it is done,&#8217;\u201d Danny tells <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cThe other part of me is like, \u2018Oh, my God. Give me a sequel, please.\u2019 I\u2019ve got these set pieces that I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, my God, I so badly want to shoot this. This is the coolest thing ever.\u2019 So, if A24 came to me and said, \u2018You know what? We\u2019d like a sequel.\u2019 I wouldn\u2019t be able to resist. I\u2019d want to do it so bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Michael adds: \u201cI guess a question would be, would you continue the story around Mia and those characters, or do you go to another part of the world? That\u2019s a debate.\u201d Danny, who co-wrote the screenplay, thinks both of those concepts are exciting. (For now, they are booked on Legendary\u2019s <em>Street Fighter <\/em>adaptation.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    What the Philippous are clear about is that their story is a tragedy\u2014despite how much gory fun it can be at times. <em>Talk to Me <\/em>follows Mia, a teen grieving and doubting the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arent suicide of her mother, who rejects her father. Mia integrates herself into the family of her friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen), taking care of Jade\u2019s little brother Riley (Joe Bird).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    When a group of local kids start playing with the haunted hand that brings forth evil spirits, Mia is eager to participate as a way out of her grief. She gets addicted, especially when the hand starts conjuring up her mother. Her obsession leads to Riley\u2019s possession and hospitalization, and eventually her own imprisonment in the world of these ghouls. \u201cThe worst possible outcome was what we were writing,\u201d Danny explains. \u201cAnd when you\u2019re writing to express your own fears or anxieties, you get that terrible stuff onto the page that just ends up being the story that we\u2019re telling.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    If you have questions about what exactly happens at the end \u2014 in which Mia tries to ostensibly save Riley by throwing his wheelchair into oncoming traffic, but ends up plummeting herself instead \u2014 the Philippous have answers, even if they want you to figure it out for yourself. \u201cEven with the ending, people are trying to guess, \u2018This is what happened. Did she do this?\u2019 But if you really look on screen carefully, all the clues are there,\u201d Danny notes. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    After her accident, Mia wanders through a hospital and sees Riley better, and her dad, who she stabbed, walking away from her. She\u2019s \u201ca lost soul caught between two worlds and two planes, and the light is slowly fading,\u201d Danny explains. Are those visions she sees real? That\u2019s up for interpretation, they say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    They have a \u201cthick\u201d bible of their mythology, describing how the hand works and where it\u2019s been. As for where the actual prop \u2014 molded from the forearm of production designer Bethany Ryan \u2014 resides? One of the six made is in Danny\u2019s bedroom, whereas the other five are \u201cjust out there somewhere,\u201d he adds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Despite the intense material, the twins, also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCz_cDc_2arKIb6SlJoqFT0w\">known for their YouTube channel RackaRacka<\/a>, say the set was the \u201cfunnest place to be\u201d\u2014Danny\u2019s words. Before the possession sequences, they would all rehearse each other\u2019s potentially embarrassing material, including a sequence where one teen, under the spell of the hand, makes out with a bulldog. \u201cEveryone was on the floor pretending to kiss the dog, and everyone was doing these really ridiculous things so that when it was time to come on set, no one had to be embarrassed because everyone had done it,\u201d Danny says. \u201cAnd it wasn\u2019t only the cast that did it, the crew as well.\u201d They also played Uno on set with \u201creally awkward <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> dares\u201d involved for anyone who lost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The prop hands were treated with \u201cdelicacy,\u201d Michael says, adding, \u201c\u200b\u200bNo one touched it when they didn\u2019t need to really, and it didn\u2019t get damaged or anything.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    There was naturally a fear of breaking a valuable prop, but also something scarier might have been going on. \u201cThe person who worked on the hand last before delivering it on set quit the day that they delivered it,\u201d Michael says. \u201cAnd we don\u2019t know why. Something happened that night. Think they spooked themselves or something.\u201d He speculates he should probably contact that person to figure out what actually happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Danny wonders: \u201cWhat if they\u2019re dead? What if they find them and they\u2019re dead?\u201d To which Michael replies, \u201cYeah.
