{"id":585515,"date":"2023-08-03T17:58:59","date_gmt":"2023-08-03T14:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/gop-releases-devon-archer-transcript-after-lawmakers-give-conflicting-accounts\/"},"modified":"2023-08-03T17:58:59","modified_gmt":"2023-08-03T14:58:59","slug":"gop-releases-devon-archer-transcript-after-lawmakers-give-conflicting-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/gop-releases-devon-archer-transcript-after-lawmakers-give-conflicting-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"#GOP releases Devon Archer transcript after lawmakers give conflicting accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/07\/ArcherDevon_073123ap.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) on Thursday released the tran<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> of a closed-door interview the panel conducted with Devon Archer, the former business associate of Hunter Biden whom Republicans view as a key witness in their investigation into the Biden family\u2019s business dealings.<\/p>\n<p>In the days between the interview and the release of the transcript, House members have offered conflicting interpretations\u00a0of the testimony, with Republicans arguing it proved that President Biden \u201clied\u201d when he said he had never spoken to his son about his foreign business dealings, and Democrats claiming the opposite, saying the testimony showed the president was not involved in his son\u2019s business dealings.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Archer sat for a transcribed interview with the Oversight Committee for more than five hours Monday. The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Devon-Archer-Transcript.pdf\">transcript spans 141 pages<\/a> and is accompanied by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/DA-Exhibits.pdf\">24 pages of documents<\/a>\u00a0discussed during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we are releasing the transcript from Devon Archer\u2019s interview with our committee,\u201d the House Oversight Committee <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1687093862345367552?s=20\">wrote on X<\/a>, the platform formerly known as <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following Archer\u2019s closed-door interview, lawmakers said the witness testified that Hunter Biden sometimes put President Biden, then the vice president, on speakerphone with foreign business partners. Lawmakers also said Archer discussed Hunter Biden selling the \u201cillusion of access\u201d to his father.<\/p>\n<p>Comer on Thursday pointed out several \u201ckey exchanges\u201d from Archer\u2019s testimony, including a claim from Archer that Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company he and Hunter Biden sat on the board of, \u201cwould have gone out of business if it didn\u2019t have the brand attached to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted exchanges about two dinners Joe Biden attended with Hunter Biden\u2019s foreign business associates in 2014 and 2015 at Cafe Milano in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released Thursday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the Oversight panel, fired back at Comer and reiterated that Archer\u2019s testimony shoots down the idea that President Biden was involved in his son\u2019s business dealings.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, Committee Republicans\u2019 priority investigation into President Biden has failed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden,\u201d Raskin wrote. \u201cOn Monday, Devon Archer, Hunter Biden\u2019s former business associate, confirmed in a transcribed interview that President Biden was never involved in Hunter\u2019s business dealings, never profited from such dealings, and never took official action in relation to these business dealings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Archer repeatedly explained that across a decade-long relationship with Hunter Biden, he was not aware of President Biden ever discussing Hunter Biden\u2019s business.\u00a0 Instead, Devon Archer described how Hunter Biden sold the \u2018illusion\u2019 of access to his father\u2014access he never actually provided,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans for months have been trying to link President Biden to his son\u2019s business dealings. Last month, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) floated launching an impeachment inquiry into Biden, pointing to testimony from IRS whistleblowers that accuse prosecutors of slow-walking the investigation into Hunter Biden\u2019s tax crimes.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Comer released the transcript of Archer\u2019s testimony hours before former President Trump is scheduled to be arraigned in D.C., where he was indicted on four federal counts stemming from his efforts to remain in power following the 2020 elections. When <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> broke of the charges on Tuesday, several Republicans \u2014\u00a0including McCarthy \u2014\u00a0said the indictment was an effort to distract from Archer\u2019s testimony and other GOP-led investigations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone in America could see what was going to come next: DOJ\u2019s attempt to distract from the news and attack the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, President Trump,\u201d McCarthy wrote <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1686504890137235456?s=20\">in a tweet<\/a>, pointing to claims Republicans have made throughout their investigations and a poll that has Trump well ahead of his GOP primary opponents.<\/p>\n<p>Raskin, meanwhile, argued that Comer released the transcript Thursday in an effort to distract from Trump\u2019s indictment and upcoming arraignment.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe transcript released today shows the extent to which Congressional Republicans are willing to distort, twist, and manipulate the facts presented by their own witness just to keep fueling the far-right media\u2019s obsession with fabricating wrongdoing by President Biden in a desperate effort to distract from Donald Trump\u2019s third indictment and the overwhelming evidence of his persistent efforts to undermine American democracy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The White House slammed Republicans following Archer\u2019s highly anticipated transcribed interview earlier this week, claiming that the testimony showed that the president did nothing wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt appears that the House Republicans\u2019 own much-hyped witness today testified that he never heard of President Biden discussing business with his son or his son\u2019s associates, or doing anything wrong,\u201d Ian Sams, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, said in a statement. \u201cHouse Republicans keep promising bombshell evidence to support their ridiculous attacks against the President, but time after time, they keep failing to produce any.
