data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> of Devon Archer\u2019s closed-door testimony, offering insight into the business dealings of his former business associate, Hunter Biden, and an eye into the GOP investigation of the Biden family.<\/p>\n<p>Archer sat for a transcribed interview before the Oversight panel Monday, after which lawmakers on each side of the aisle offered conflicting interpretations of his testimony as observers awaited the release of the transcript.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The clashing narratives continued on Thursday, with the Republicans on the committee\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/1687093862345367552?s=20\">saying\u00a0the testimony from Archer<\/a> \u2014\u00a0who they view as a key witness in their probe \u2014 \u201cconfirmed several critical pieces of information in our investigation of the Bidens\u2019 influence peddling schemes,\u201d while the top Democrat on the panel said the interview \u201cfailed to produce any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Devon-Archer-Transcript.pdf\">According to the transcript<\/a>, Archer testified that Hunter Biden put his father, then the vice president, on speakerphone during some meetings with associates, and the interview covered the Biden \u201cbrand\u201d at length, but Archer said he was not aware of President Biden committing any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Abbe Lowell, counsel for Hunter Biden, in a statement this week said House Republicans \u201ckeep swinging and keep striking out\u201d on their pursuit of President Biden through his son.<\/p>\n<p>The release of the testimony was, nonetheless, a notable development in the House GOP\u2019s probe, which for months has sought to connect President Biden to his son\u2019s business dealings \u2014\u00a0especially as Republicans eye an impeachment inquiry targeting the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Here are five key takeaways from Archer\u2019s interview.<\/p>\n<h2><span not that he was actually influencing any policy. The White House has denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) on Monday pressed Archer about a statement attributed to Zlochevsky, in which he allegedly said, \u201cIt costs five to pay one Biden and five to another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWere you ever made aware of Mr. Zlochevsky paying $5 million to two different Bidens?\u201d Goldman asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I\u2019m not. I would assume he\u2019s probably talking about me and Hunter, but I don\u2019t know. But I don\u2019t know anything about those five,\u201d Archer replied.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apple.news\/T7zM9N_S2SDKHQ2PypEf8AQ?subscribe=1\">Sign up for the latest from The Hill here<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Archer also said he would disagree with the conclusion that then-Vice President Biden was bribed by Zlochevsky.<\/p>\n<p>The tip in the FBI form rests on a years-long allegation that Biden, as vice president, threatened to withhold $1 billion in funding to Ukraine unless then-Prosecutor <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Viktor Shokin was ousted. (AP Photo\/Patrick Semansky)<\/em><\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Archer recalled that Hunter would sometimes put his father, then-Vice President Biden, on speakerphone during meetings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Archer recalled \u201cmaybe 20 times\u201d that Hunter Biden made it apparent to investors or other business contacts that he spoke to his dad and said he had occasionally placed his father on speakerphone.<\/p>\n<p>Archer described the conversations he heard as \u201cgenerally about the weather and, you know, what it\u2019s like in Norway or Paris or wherever he may be.\u201d He recalled one phone conversation Hunter Biden put his father on the phone for, with Chinese businessman Jonathan Li.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeijing, how great Beijing is \u2014 or Chengdu, whichever city we were in. But, you know, same answers \u2014 nonspecifics relative to business and just, you know, an expression of hellos, I guess,\u201d he testified.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n        The Hill Elections 2024 coverage<br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Archer described numerous periods of time during which Biden and Hunter Biden would speak every day, which is in line with the close family dynamic the Bidens have, and said the frequency of interactions between them increased when Hunter Biden\u2019s brother, Beau Biden, died in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>But, Archer said he never witnessed them discussing the substance of Hunter Biden\u2019s business during those calls. (AP Photo\/Susan Walsh)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Archer said the Biden family\u2019s \u201cbrand\u201d provided value to Burisma.<\/p>\n<p>At one point in his testimony, he said he did not consider the \u201cbrand\u201d to be \u201cJoe directly,\u201d but noted that the then-vice president \u201cbrought the most value to the brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Archer later said he thought \u201cBurisma would have gone out of business if it didn\u2019t have the brand attached to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that\u2019s different than Joe Biden\u2019s action,\u201d Goldman pressed him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight,\u201d Archer responded.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he thinks having Hunter Biden on the board is why Burisma \u201cwas able to survive for as long as it did \u2026 just because of the brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked by Goldman how that had an impact, Archer responded, \u201cThe capabilities to navigate D.C. that they were able to, you know, basically be in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think that preserved them from a, you know, from a longevity standpoint. Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC was the private equity firm controlled by Archer at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 dinner centered on the World Food Program, and then-vice president Biden made an appearance at it.
