{"id":585830,"date":"2023-08-05T20:50:32","date_gmt":"2023-08-05T17:50:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/judge-orders-trump-response-to-doj-request-for-protective-order-in-2020-election-case\/"},"modified":"2023-08-05T20:50:32","modified_gmt":"2023-08-05T17:50:32","slug":"judge-orders-trump-response-to-doj-request-for-protective-order-in-2020-election-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/judge-orders-trump-response-to-doj-request-for-protective-order-in-2020-election-case\/","title":{"rendered":"#Judge orders Trump response to DOJ request for protective order in 2020 election case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/AP23215691946294-e1691257642656.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The federal judge presiding over former\u00a0President Trump\u2019s\u00a0election fraud case has ordered his attorneys to respond to prosecutors\u2019\u00a0request for a protective order\u00a0by Monday, according to a court filing Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Judge\u00a0Tanya Chutkan\u00a0gave Trump\u2019s attorneys a single business day to respond to special counsel\u00a0Jack Smith\u2019s\u00a0request for a strict protective order which would prevent Trump from discussing case evidence in public.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Smith made the request last Friday after Trump made a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> post <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earing to threaten witnesses in the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIF YOU GO AFTER ME, I\u2019M COMING AFTER YOU!\u201d Trump wrote<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/110833185720203438\">\u00a0on Truth Social<\/a>\u00a0Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump campaign has since said the post was\u00a0not intended to be threatening.<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors argued that a strict protective order is necessary because Trump has a history of discussing case issues publicly. Negotiations between prosecutors and the Trump team over a protective order broke down Friday, prosecutors claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s attorneys must now either accept Smith\u2019s proposed protective order or submit a revised proposal by 5 p.m. Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch a restriction is particularly important in this case because the defendant has previously issued public statements on social media regarding witnesses, judges, attorneys, and others associated with legal matters pending against him,\u201d prosecutors wrote in the proposal filing Friday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIf the defendant were to begin issuing public posts using details \u2014 or, for example, grand jury transcripts \u2014 obtained in discovery here, it could have a harmful chilling effect on witnesses or adversely affect the fair administration of justice in this case,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s attorneys requested a three-day extension \u2014 until Thursday \u2014 to that deadline Saturday afternoon, claiming federal prosecutors want to move the case along too quickly and that a delay gives them enough time to properly respond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriday evening ultimatums, given by the government before even calling defense counsel, are wholly unproductive and undermine the potential for party-driven resolutions,\u201d Trump\u2019s attorneys\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149\/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149.11.0_1.pdf\">responded<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cRequiring a Monday response to a Friday evening motion likewise forecloses the possibility of agreement and would encourage such improper tactics by the government in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They also said a delay would enable further negotiations between the government and the defense, potentially leading to an agreement on a protective order and making action by the judge unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>However, Chutkan denied the Trump team\u2019s request for an extension Saturday evening, saying they can continue to confer with prosecutors both before and after the deadline.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Trump was\u00a0indicted on four federal charges Tuesday, alleging that he attempted to orchestrate a fake electoral college vote scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
