\n The BFI London Film Festival has landed one of the most anticipated British films of the year as its 2023 curtain-raiser. <\/p>\n

\n Saltburn<\/em>, the sophomore feature of Emerald Fennell following her Oscar-winning directorial debut Promising Young Women<\/em>, is set to get its international premiere when it opens the event on October 4 at London\u2019s Royal Festival Hall. <\/p>\n

\n Starring Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe\u00a0and Carey Mulligan, and likened to The Talented Mr. Ripley<\/em>, the film is described by festival organizers as a \u201cbeautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire.\u201d Set in the mid-2000s, the story follows student Oliver (Keoghan) who, struggling to find his place at Oxford University, finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family\u2019s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n \u201cAs soon as the credits rolled on Saltburn<\/em>, it\u00a0was clear we\u2019d\u00a0met our opening night film,\u201d said incoming London Film Festival director Kristy Matheson, marking her first festival since taking the role earlier this year. \u201cAcademy Award winner Emerald Fennell returns with an expertly crafted and exhilarating thrill ride of a film that showcases\u00a0an enormous depth of U.K. talents in front of and behind the camera. With its exceptional performances, delicious plot twists and a soundtrack of early 21st-century pop bangers, this hugely ambitious film immedia<\/a>tely\u00a0stole our hearts\u00a0and we can\u2019t\u00a0wait to share it with audiences in London and across the U.K. this October.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Amazon\u00a0Studios and MGM\u00a0will release\u00a0the film, which comes from MRC\u00a0and Margot Robbie\u2019s LuckyChap\u00a0Entertainment (Robbie produces, as she did on Promising Young Woman<\/em>), in cinemas on Nov. 24.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0honored\u00a0that our film is able to\u00a0open this year\u2019s BFI London Film Festival,\u201d said Fennell, who won both the best original screenplay Oscar and BAFTA for Promising Young Woman<\/em>, and can currently be seen starring alongside Robbie in Barbie<\/em>. \u201cIt is a festival that inspired me so much growing up, one that I followed excitedly from my bedroom on the other side of London. It feels extra-special that Saltburn<\/em>, this very British tale of excess, is able to make its international debut at the wonderful BFI.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n The 67th edition of the BFI London Film Festival runs Oct. 4-15. The full lineup is due to be unveiled on Aug. 31.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
