{"id":586252,"date":"2023-08-09T00:33:22","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T21:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/trump-risks-legal-threats-with-public-outbursts\/"},"modified":"2023-08-09T00:33:22","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T21:33:22","slug":"trump-risks-legal-threats-with-public-outbursts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/trump-risks-legal-threats-with-public-outbursts\/","title":{"rendered":"#Trump risks legal threats with public outbursts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/AP23215777550307-e1691155343122.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>When it comes to criminal cases, many lawyers advise their clients not to speak publicly about their cases.<\/p>\n<p>But most clients are not former President Trump.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>As Trump\u2019s legal problems continue to pile up, the former president has remained outspoken on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> and in public, attacking prosecutors, judges and potential witnesses, all while speaking openly about the actions that set off the investigations in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a unique setting, because normally what we tell clients, of course, is, \u2018Don\u2019t say anything; don\u2019t make any public comments,\u2019\u201d said John Lauro, one of the attorneys representing Trump in his Jan. 6 case in Washington, on a podcast with Florida lawyer David Markus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith President Trump, because of the campaign, and I would say because of his personality, it\u2019s impossible for him not to speak out on the issues. So it does present unique circumstances,\u201d Lauro added. \u201cI think, in his mind, it\u2019s sort of fair <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> from a political perspective to make these comments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump is unfiltered when he posts on Truth Social, and his political speeches often veer from his prepared remarks. That has already gotten him in trouble in some of his legal cases, and political advisers and legal experts warned that Trump\u2019s tendency to speak out could land him in hot water, posing additional risks as he hits the campaign trail and mulls attending the first GOP primary debate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey may be able to use some of his statements against him. Given what the potential for him saying things is, it\u2019s hard to imagine it\u2019s going to do him any good in the trial. But I suspect that his lawyers have absolutely no control over what he\u2019s saying,\u201d said Alan Morrison, a law professor at George Washington University.<\/p>\n<p>The risks Trump poses to himself and his legal defense have been evident in recent months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Writer E. Jean Carroll amended her defamation lawsuit against Trump in May to include comments he made at a CNN town hall calling her a \u201cwhack job\u201d and dismissing her allegations of sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Trump in a June interview with Fox <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>\u2019s Bret Baier defended his actions laid out in the federal indictment over his handling of classified materials by claiming he may not have had a physical document with him when he allegedly discussed a top-secret Pentagon document with individuals at his Bedminster club. That episode was later added to a superseding indictment filed by prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>The former president last Friday wrote on Truth Social: \u201cIf you go after me, I\u2019m coming after you!\u201d The message came one day after a judge warned Trump in the case over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election not to influence or intimidate witnesses. Prosecutors quickly cited the post in asking for a protective order to limit what Trump can publicly say about the case.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Speaking to supporters Tuesday in New Hampshire, Trump blasted the move by prosecutors and vowed he would continue to speak out about his legal woes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will talk about it. I will. They\u2019re not taking away my First Amendment right,\u201d Trump said to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lause.<\/p>\n<p>Lauro, one of Trump\u2019s attorneys, said on the Markus podcast that he thinks judges and prosecutors \u201cunderstand the dynamic in terms of there being sort of a campaign going on, and I think it\u2019s a little bit different than our standard case where we would pull our hair out if a client commented on a prosecutor or a judge.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>While Trump has indicated he may skip the first two GOP presidential primary debates because of his large lead in the polls, officials said they could envision scenarios where Trump is put on the spot on the debate stage about his legal problems, potentially drawing him further into trouble.<\/p>\n<p>They noted that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is a former prosecutor whose candidacy has thus far been focused squarely on getting under Trump\u2019s skin and arguing Trump is unfit to serve another term in the White House.<\/p>\n<p>And they pointed to the presence of former Vice President Mike Pence, who was a central figure in the Justice Department\u2019s indictment against Trump for his attempts to subvert the 2020 election results, with prosecutors detailing numerous instances of Trump pressuring the then-vice president to reject the results on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Pence has been adamant he had no right to overturn the election, and he has argued Trump asked him to put the president over the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and other candidates would be almost certain to be asked about the former president\u2019s legal troubles at the upcoming debate. Former Trump campaign advisers said they saw little upside to the former president getting up on stage given both the political and legal risks.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Spicer, who served as Trump\u2019s White House press secretary, said he doesn\u2019t think Trump cares as much about the potential legal implications of debating, though he said it\u2019s \u201ca legitimate argument to make.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re up there and you start tangling with these one-percenters, and it\u2019s not just the legal pitfalls, it\u2019s the political pitfalls,\u201d Spicer said. \u201cTheir goal is to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> you up.
