{"id":587068,"date":"2023-08-15T06:28:50","date_gmt":"2023-08-15T03:28:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/meadows-giuliani-charged-in-georgia-probe-of-2020-election-interference\/"},"modified":"2023-08-15T06:28:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T03:28:50","slug":"meadows-giuliani-charged-in-georgia-probe-of-2020-election-interference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/meadows-giuliani-charged-in-georgia-probe-of-2020-election-interference\/","title":{"rendered":"#Meadows, Giuliani charged in Georgia probe of 2020 election interference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/meadowsmark_09112020_ap_andrewharnik.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani were among the co-defendants charged Monday in the investigation into efforts to overturn Georgia\u2019s 2020 election results.<\/p>\n<p>Meadows faces two charges: solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer and racketeering, a charge usually reserved for organized crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Former President Trump, Meadows and the other 17 indicted individuals face racketeering charges under Georgia\u2019s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.<\/p>\n<p>Giuliani, meanwhile, faces 13 charges total, including false statements and writing, racketeering, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree and conspiracy to commit filing false documents, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment cites Giuliani\u2019s efforts to get Georgia state officials to unlawfully <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>oint presidential electors from the state in violation of the terms of their oath of office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It also accuses Giuliani of making false statements and writing when he said at a Georgia Senate subcommittee meeting that at least 96,000 mail-in ballots were counted in the 2020 presidential election, despite there being no record of those ballots having been returned to the county elections office.<\/p>\n<p>It also cites Giuliani\u2019s claim that Dominion Voting Systems equipment mistakenly recorded 6,000 votes for Joe Biden instead of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Giuliani was one of the lawyers present for several previously reported meetings among Trump legal advisers pushing unproven claims of election fraud that were dismissed in court after the election.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Meadows, meanwhile, kept a largely low profile after the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Meadows was ordered by a judge to speak before the Georgia special grand jury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, he joked about false claims of voter fraud via votes cast by dead people, according to the Washington Post.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But after Jan. 6, the former chief of staff went largely off the grid, causing some to speculate he has played a role in Special Counsel Jack Smith\u2019s federal investigation into Trump\u2019s actions after losing the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ella Lee contributed.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
