The war-gaming is endless. Memos have been leaked. Advisers are whispering, posting their thoughts and showing up in TV studios with their wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>What to say and do if former <strong>President Trump<\/strong> is a no-show, as he suggests he will be, or makes a surprise <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance in Milwaukee as both the party\u2019s frontrunner and precedent-setting criminal defendant?<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/08\/16\/politics\/trump-debate-counterprogramming\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> reports that Trump is mulling how he might be absent on Wednesday while also taking some of the wind out of his rivals\u2019 sails. Counterprogramming? A live interview? With whom? The former president was busy on Thursday, appearing on \u201cFox &amp; Friends\u201d and Fox Business. Interviews with conservative <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> in the past were Trump\u2019s idea of preparation. One unnamed adviser told CNN that Trump needs no practice and has done none.<\/p>\n<p>Republican National Committee Chairwoman <strong>Ronna McDaniel<\/strong> said Thursday during a NewsNation interview on \u201cThe Hill\u201d that she believes Trump will overcome his resistance and sign the party\u2019s required loyalty pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI have a feeling if he wants to be on the debate stage, he\u2019s going to sign that pledge,\u201d <\/em>she said. <em>\u201cHe could still change his mind.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Karl Rove<\/strong>, a GOP strategist and Fox News contributor who advised former President <strong>George W. Bush<\/strong>, told the network that if he were Trump, he\u2019d get on the debate stage (The Hill).<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>\u201cThis is where you get to demonstrate, \u2018I am the leader and I will remain the leader,\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong> said Rove, a Trump critic. <strong><em>\u201cIf he doesn\u2019t show up, there are going to be people who say to themselves, \u2018Didn\u2019t he tell us, didn\u2019t he mock Joe Biden for not debating and hasn\u2019t he said he was the world\u2019s greatest debater?\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Florida Republican Gov. <strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong>, who anticipates being pummeled by fellow debaters in Milwaukee and is searching for a jolt of momentum amid his slipping poll numbers, had no comment Thursday when<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/17\/us\/politics\/desantis-debate-strategy.html?campaign_id=60&amp;emc=edit_na_20230817&amp;instance_id=0&amp;nl=breaking-news&amp;ref=cta&amp;regi_id=77905747&amp;segment_id=142267&amp;user_id=7e881804bdbb6c70fc879d696f8c8bdd\"> The New York Times<\/a> reported on memos that outlined debate tips for the governor, which were posted to a website by a firm behind the Never Back Down super PAC helping the campaign.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>DeSantis was advised to \u201ctake a sledgehammer\u201d to <strong>Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong>, the political newcomer who is rising in the polls, according to the memos. He should \u201cdefend Donald Trump\u201d when former New Jersey Republican Gov. <strong>Chris Christie<\/strong> inevitably attacks the former president. And he needs to \u201cattack Joe Biden and the media\u201d no less than three to five times, according to the advice.<\/p>\n<p>The documents suggest that DeSantis could say that Trump\u2019s time has passed, and that the governor should be seen by voters watching the debate as \u201ccarrying the torch\u201d for the movement Trump inspired.<\/p>\n<p>The tips are so detailed and strategy-heavy that it appears that the super PAC, which recently had a top official, <strong>David Polyansky<\/strong>, leave for the campaign, is trying to dictate how the candidate should conduct himself on the debate stage, the Times reported.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2023\/08\/18\/brett-odonell-desantis-gop-debate-00111713\">Politico Magazine<\/a>: The brawling bard of the debate stage trying to save DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, House Republicans have hearings in mind for Capitol Hill with the goal of weakening <strong>President Biden\u2019s <\/strong>political prospects while criticizing members of his administration.<\/p>\n<p>The House Oversight and Accountability Committee is investigating the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan ordered by Biden in 2021 (The Hill). The State Department, in response to a request from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, agreed to send additional documents to Congress tied to the Afghanistan operation, which left 13 U.S. service members dead in Kabul as U.S. personnel departed.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>House Republicans will continue to probe <strong>Hunter Biden\u2019s<\/strong> past international business interests while asserting without evidence that the president personally profited from his son\u2019s former clients. The president, first lady, and Gov. <strong>Josh Green<\/strong> (D) will meet with first responders, survivors and federal, state and local officials. In a brief video message <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/video\/president-biden-lady-set-visit-maui-102340952\">aired on ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America\u201d<\/a> on Thursday, Biden said the federal government has already sent hundreds of emergency personnel, thousands of meals, and essential supplies such as cots and blankets to the devastated town, where some 2,200 buildings were destroyed on Aug. 8 (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lahainanews.com\/news\/local-news\/2023\/08\/17\/president-joe-biden-and-first-lady-jill-biden-to-visit-maui-on-monday\/\">Lahaina News<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/biden-pledges-us-support-maui-through-wildfire-recovery-2023-08-17\/\">Reuters<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will be with you for as long as it takes, I promise you,\u201d<\/em> the president said. <em>\u201cAlready from the darkness and the smoke and the ash, we see the light of hope and strength.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The visit comes after Biden drew criticism from Republicans for not responding sooner; the president said he did not want his arrival to interfere with emergency relief efforts. It is part of an ongoing effort to quietly build support for any Senate vote that would be needed to cement a potential pact. Arizona is one of seven states that Trump lost in 2020 where his allies allegedly attempted to create a fraudulent slate of electors.
