Chris Christie (R), who\u2019s running for the GOP presidential nomination, responded to Donald Trump\u2019s cancellation of a press conference he planned to give next week on alleged election fraud in Georgia, calling it \u201cthe first smart decision he\u2019s made\u201d in a while.<\/p>\n<p>In <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2023\/08\/18\/chris-christie-reaction-trump-cancels-event-sot-cnntm-vpx.cnn\">an interview on CNN<\/a>, Christie said he isn\u2019t surprised about Trump\u2019s decision to cancel the press conference. He said the former president is now aware that he is \u201cfacing jail time\u201d and \u201ccan\u2019t make his situation much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI think the first smart decision he\u2019s made in this regard, in a long time, was canceling that ridiculous press conference for Monday,\u201d Christie said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/110893712805150244\">Trump announced<\/a> the press conference Tuesday on Truth <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> in the wake of his fourth indictment in Georgia related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election the day before. <\/p>\n<p>But the former president called it off Thursday, saying his lawyers would put together his allegations of election fraud in the southern state into \u201cformal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Conference is no longer necessary!\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>Christie and several other GOP contenders are set to face off at the first presidential primary debate Wednesday in Milwaukee.
