This Is Us <\/em>star Ron Cephas Jones has died. He was 66.<\/p>\n

The Emmy winner, who took home the Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series<\/a> award twice for his role on the NBC drama, died due to a \u201clong-standing pulmonary issue,\u201d his representative said in a statement to Yahoo Entertainment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness and heart were felt by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing him,\u201d the statement read. \u201cHe began his career at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and his love for the stage was present throughout his entire career, including his recent Tony-nominated and Drama Desk Award-winning performance for his role in Clyde\u2019s<\/em> on Broadway. Ron\u2019s inner-beauty and soul was evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award winning performance on This is Us<\/em>.\u201d He is survived by his actress-singer daughter, Jasmine Cephas Jones, best known for her role as Peggy Schuyler in the original Broadway production of Hamilton<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Jones portrayed William on This Is Us<\/em>, the biological father of Sterling K. Brown\u2019s character Randall. In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, Brown paid tribute to his TV dad, writing in part, \u201cThe world is a little less bright. Brother, you are loved. And you will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones\u2019s television credits also included roles on shows like Mr. Robot<\/em>, Looking for Alaska<\/em>, Truth Be Told<\/em>, Law & Order: Organized Crime<\/em>, and Better Things<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He also app<\/a>eared in movies like Dolemite is My Name<\/em>, Dog Days<\/em>, The Holiday Calendar<\/em>, and Half Nelson<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In May 2020, Jones, a lifelong smoker, received a double lung transplant due to his chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, per his 2021 interview with The New York Times<\/a>. The actor spent two months on and off a ventilator, learning how to eat and breathe again. He initially did not want to go through with the surgery, he said, due to the possibility that he would need an oxygen tank for the rest of his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in total denial,\u201d Jones said at the time. \u201cI told myself that it would pass, or that I was just getting older. I was afraid and didn\u2019t want to change what I wasn\u2019t ready to change.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called the idea of not being able to perform again \u201cworse than death.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Brown, Jones\u2019s other This Is Us <\/em>co-stars reacted to the loss on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Mandy Moore shared a photo of her and Jones from the show\u2019s finale, calling him \u201cpure magic as a human and an artist\u201d and saying that working with him was \u201cthe greatest gift.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chrissy Metz, meanwhile, wrote, \u201cRon, thank you for brightening every room you walked into. I\u2019ll never forget and have been changed by your kind heart, amazing spirit, immeasurable talent and beautiful smile. May your transition be full of light and peace. … You are truly the coolest cat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
