After a smart business decision made by the RNC last spring to allow us to select the next convention city earlier than ever, we are looking forward to seeing Houston in the spotlight come 2028,\u201d said RNC Charwoman Ronna McDaniel in a release.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>RNC committee members voted to select the biggest city in the Lone Star State as the seat of the convention five years out.\u00a0The announcement for the 2028 host comes a year before the party hosts its 2024 event. <\/p>\n<p>Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in the RNC\u2019s release welcomed the convention to Houston, which he described as \u201cone of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, a thriving center of economic development, and a cultural leader of Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (D) said Houston knows \u201chow to host a major convention\u201d and said the event \u201ckeeps us on the global stage.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 Republican National Convention is set to be held in Milwaukee next July, the same Wisconsin city that hosted the party\u2019s first presidential primary debate earlier this week.\u00a0The dates of the 2028 event have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement is a historic step for the Republican Party, and the beginning of a successful partnership between the city of Houston, the state of Texas, and the Republican National Committee.
