Kyrsten Sinema\u2019s (I) seat.<\/p>\n<p>Sinema\u2019s seat is a top 2024 target for Republicans looking to seize control of the upper chamber, where Democrats hold a tenuous 51-49 lead that includes Sinema \u2014 who dropped her affiliation as a Democrat after last year\u2019s midterm elections. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Liberals want to knock Sinema out and Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) has already\u00a0launched\u00a0a bid to for the Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump-aligned Lake lost her gubernatorial bid last year and some Republicans think she could doom the party to defeat if she wins the GOP\u2019s Senate nomination.<\/p>\n<p>But if it is a three-way race with Gallego, Sinema and Lake, few are entirely sure how it would turn out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArizona is going to be the focal point again,\u201d said one GOP consultant, noting how close the battleground state came during the 2020 presidential race. \u201cI know that everybody talks about Ohio, West Virginia and Montana as the keys for Republicans to take back the Senate. But Arizona is very deep in that mix.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats will be defending seats next year in Ohio, Montana and West Virginia, all states won handily by former President Trump in the 2020 presidential election. The battlegrounds highlight the difficulties the party faces in retaining its majority in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite frankly, anything can h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en in the three-way race,\u201d said Barrett Marson, an Arizona-based GOP strategist.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>In an\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MnaBk8BAPSU\">interview<\/a>\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>Nation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill,\u201d Lake said she\u2019s \u201cseriously considering\u201d a bid for the Senate seat and shared she plans to \u201cmake that decision by the end of the year.\u201d NewsNation is owned by Nexstar, which also owns The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Colton Duncan, a senior adviser\u00a0to Lake, said in a statement that a decision\u00a0either way\u00a0could come \u201cin roughly a month or so.\u201d \u00a0Lake will have competition on the GOP side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is\u00a0running, and others could crowd into the primary. But strategists get the sense that if Lake runs, the GOP nomination is hers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re seeing with Donald Trump that, even though he\u2019s a very divisive candidate with independents, he\u2019s loved by Republicans. Same with Kari Lake. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any chance she loses the nomination if she runs,\u201d said Brian Darling, a Republican strategist and former Senate aide who thinks it\u2019s highly likely Lake does jump in the race.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lake\u00a0said\u00a0last month she thinks she\u2019s \u201cthe only one\u201d who could win the upper chamber seat. An April\u00a0poll\u00a0showed her leading a hypothetical GOP primary for Senate in the state, with Lamb in third behind her.<\/p>\n<p>The former candidate for governor\u00a0refused to concede\u00a0after she\u00a0lost\u00a0her bid during the midterms to Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs by less than 1 point and lobbed\u00a0legal challenges\u00a0to dispute the results.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Lake has long defended former President Trump\u2019s false claims of election fraud during his 2020 race, and\u00a0argued\u00a0earlier this year that it would be a \u201cbig red flag\u201d if any 2024 GOP presidential candidate didn\u2019t \u201cabsolutely\u201d agree that her Arizona gubernatorial election was stolen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKari Lake clearly is a candidate who\u2019s got elbows out and some rough edges, and she will campaign much like Donald Trump. She will not hold back and will run a very, very aggressive campaign,\u201d Darling said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lake\u2019s unflagging support for Trump along the campaign trail and after has led to some think she may be vying to become\u00a0a vice presidential pick\u00a0if the Republican presidential frontrunner secures his party\u2019s nomination.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Sporting a pin with the slogan \u201cTrump was right\u201d during her NewsNation interview last week, Lake sidestepped questions about whether she has ambitions to become Trump\u2019s running mate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what I\u2019m wishing for? I\u2019m really wishing to get our country back. I\u2019m wishing that people wake up and realize that we\u2019re in a really perilous position right now with our country, and we have the opportunity to elect the greatest president in American history, President Donald J. Trump,\u201d Lake said.<\/p>\n<p>Pressed again about whether she\u2019s interested in joining Trump on a hypothetical ticket, Lake said, \u201cI\u2019m all about the here and now.\u201d She added that she\u2019ll \u201cdo anything I can\u201d to help the former president.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Marson contended that drawing out her decision timeline until the end of this year and teasing a potential race shows an effort by Lake to draw <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> attention and raise her national profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darling said he thinks Lake has \u201cgot a much better shot\u201d at becoming a senator than becoming vice president.<\/p>\n<p>But despite confidence that Lake could win the GOP nomination in Arizona, some\u00a0Republicans are concerned\u00a0about how Lake would fare in the critical <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> election, given her loss in the midterms.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Her\u00a0alignment with Trump\u00a0is also seen as a factor that could complicate things for establishment Republicans gunning for the key Senate seat \u2014 particularly as the party looks to\u00a0avoid candidate quality\u00a0issues that plagued the party\u2019s midterm results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKari Lake turns this Senate seat from a winnable Republican seat to a lost cause. And money, good money, smart money does not flow to lost causes,\u201d said Marson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sinema, without an official bid, reported\u00a0raising\u00a0$1.6 million in the second quarter of fundraising this year. Lamb reported roughly $607,000 \u2014 while Gallego\u00a0raised\u00a0$3.1 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Noble Predictive Insights\u00a0poll\u00a0from earlier this month found Gallego leading Sinema and Lake in a hypothetical three-way contest. Without Sinema in the race, Gallego\u2019s lead grew.<\/p>\n<p>NPI founder and chief of research Mike Noble said in the poll report that Gallego is \u201ca formidable candidate,\u201d but noted that Sinema\u2019s entry \u201ccould create a more complex electoral landscape, given her ability to draw support from Independents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And independents are a crucial part of Arizona\u2019s unique electoral landscape. Though Arizona voters have elected Democrats to statewide offices in recent races, like Hobbs\u2019 victory over Lake last year, Republicans make up the largest party-affiliated bloc in the Grand Canyon State.<\/p>\n<p>But the largest group of voters in the state are unaffiliated with either major party, according to voter registration\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/azsos.gov\/elections\/results-data\/voter-registration-statistics\">statistics<\/a>\u00a0from July.<\/p>\n<p>Stacy Pearson, an Arizona-based Democratic strategist, said this trend indicates that more and more Arizonans are moderate, tending away from extremist candidates. It also means that a potential Democrat candidate will need to pull support from other parties in order to clinch the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only way for a statewide candidate to win in Arizona is to appeal to a portion of the Republican base and a large portion of the independent base. And it\u2019s just math. Democrats are the smallest bloc of voters,\u201d Pearson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/ratings\/senate-race-ratings\">rates<\/a>\u00a0Sinema\u2019s seat as one of just three \u201ctoss up\u201d states not leaning to either side, along with Ohio and West Virginia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFolks in DC can try to ignore Arizona all they want,\u201d said the GOP consultant, \u201cbut it is part of the calculus for taking back the Senate from a Republican perspective and holding the Senate from a Democrat perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
