That\u2019s because the man already twice impeached and under indictment for trying to overturn the last presidential election is becoming even more extreme in promoting violence and sowing distrust in government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica is gr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ling with the biggest and most sustained increase in political violence since the 1970s,\u201d Reuters wrote<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kgw.com\/article\/news\/local\/the-story\/us-political-violence-reuters-normandale-park-portland-january-6\/283-b7f2e167-a169-4680-a5aa-e4c8e80fa8c2\">\u00a0in a special report earlier this month.<\/a> The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> service reported that \u201cthreats of violence and intimidating rhetoric soared after former President Trump lost the 2020 election and falsely claimed the vote was stolen.\u201d Reuters cited threats to election officials, judges, witnesses and politicians.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Homeland Security <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/ntas\/advisory\/national-terrorism-advisory-system-bulletin-may-24-2023\">is also concerned<\/a> that extremist political violence is now a \u201cpersistent and lethal threat.\u201d This \u201clethal threat,\u201d now comes mostly from the political right under the banner of populist grievance and support for Trump as a candidate who sees benefit in promoting political anger by delegitimizing the election system.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Party is already breaking up along the fissure between Trump supporters and Republicans more loyal to their party\u2019s brand of traditional conservatism. This has left several state Republican parties in dire straits financially.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/08\/02\/broke-state-gop-parties-across-the-country-00109387\">Politico reported last month<\/a>, \u201cMichigan\u2019s Republican party is broke. Minnesota\u2019s was, until recently,\u00a0down to $53.81 in the bank. And in Colorado, the GOP is facing eviction from its office this month because it can\u2019t make rent. Around the nation, state Republican party apparatuses \u2014 once bastions of competency that helped produce statehouse takeovers \u2014 have become shells of their former machines amid infighting and a lack of organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrent and former officials at the heart of the matter blame twin forces for it,\u201d the article continued. \u201cThe rise of insurgent pro-Donald Trump activists capturing party leadership posts, combined with the ever-rising influence of super PACs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Georgia State Republican Party is spending millions of dollars to help the legal defense of Georgia Republicans caught up in Trump\u2019s fake electors scheme. Meanwhile, Trump is raising record funds for his legal defense, which is taking money away from state parties.<\/p>\n<p>More evidence of the split damaging the party can be seen in the weak Republican candidates set to run in 2024 for the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>In the Arizona Senate race, for example, Kari Lake, a Trump supporter who claims the 2020 election was stolen, seems to have a lock on the state\u2019s GOP Senate nomination if she decides to run.\u00a0She has already lost a race for governor, and she concedes that top Republicans view her as a \u201cbad candidate.\u201d For this, she blames not herself but Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think he can even control what comes out his mouth anymore,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/kari-lake-floors-steve-bannon-with-harsh-criticism-of-mitch-mcconnells-health-while-talking-senate-run\/\">she told Steve Bannon in a podcast interview<\/a>, calling attention to a news conference during which McConnell\u2019s speech had faltered. \u201cI don\u2019t know what it is, there\u2019s something medically [wrong] when you freeze up like that\u2026and he\u2019s going to make all the decisions about who represent the people of Arizona.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Montana offers another example of the party\u2019s troubles.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Party leaders are desperately trying to stop Rep. Matt Rosendale, an election-denying House Freedom Caucus Member who lost to incumbent Sen. John Tester (D-Mont.) in 2018, from running against their preferred candidate.<\/p>\n<p>As McConnell warned before the 2022 elections, \u201ccandidate quality matters.\u201d\u00a0But Trump would rather nominate candidates solely on the basis of their fealty to Trump. This was how Lake and Blake Masters in Arizona; Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania; and Herschel Walker in Georgia all lost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even before Trump came to dominate the Republican Party, there was evidence of the party\u2019s inability to deal with extremism.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Let\u2019s name the shooting stars of recent vintage and imagine a world where the extremists did not have the party line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Polls showed that moderate Republican Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) would have easily won Joe Biden\u2019s Delaware Senate Seat in 2010. But Republicans nominated\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2010\/10\/05\/130353168\/-i-m-not-a-witch-republican-senate-candidate-christine-o-donnell-says-in-new-ad\">conservative activist Christine O\u2019Donnell, who famously denied being a witch<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That same year, Nevada Republicans blew their chance to knock off then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid by nominating Sharron Angle, a far-right candidate\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/sharron-angle-floated-2nd_n_614003\">who ominously hinted<\/a> that \u201cSecond Amendment remedies\u201d might become necessary if the vote was not enough to remove Reid from office.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>In 2012, Missouri Republicans nominated Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), who contended that\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/3001785\/todd-akin-legitimate-rape-msnbc-child-of-rape\/\">women could not get pregnant<\/a> from what he called \u201clegitimate rape.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock (R) lost a Republican Senate seat in deep-red Indiana with\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/she-the-people\/wp\/2012\/10\/24\/indiana-gop-senate-hopeful-richard-mourdock-says-god-intended-rape-pregnancies\/\">talk of pregnancies from rape<\/a>\u00a0being \u201cordained by God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All these candidates won Republican nominations before Donald Trump\u2019s hostile takeover of the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>While these candidates stirred passions on talk radio, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>, cable news, and attracted small dollar donors, they pushed away moderate Republican voters.<\/p>\n<p>To the delight of Democrats, Republicans continue to nominate unelectable extremists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond any one race, there is a real problem for a nation built on a two-party democracy when one of the major parties is breaking down and increasingly becoming the home for angry people, many of whom increasingly see violence as acceptable.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p><em>Juan Williams is an author and a political analyst for Fox News Channel.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
