{"id":588919,"date":"2023-08-28T18:45:38","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T15:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/trump-federal-jan-6-case-set-for-trial-in-march-2024\/"},"modified":"2023-08-28T18:45:38","modified_gmt":"2023-08-28T15:45:38","slug":"trump-federal-jan-6-case-set-for-trial-in-march-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/trump-federal-jan-6-case-set-for-trial-in-march-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"#Trump federal Jan. 6 case set for trial in March 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/AP23224728113365-1.jpeg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President Trump is set to face trial in March of 2024 in the Justice Department\u2019s case targeting his efforts to remain in office after losing the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<p>The decision from federal district court Judge Tanya Chutkan\u00a0to begin jury selection on March 4, 2024,\u00a0comes after special counsel Jack Smith\u2019s team asked for a Jan. 2, 2024, trial date, while Trump\u2019s team suggested a trial date in April 2026.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThese proposals are very far apart and for reasons I\u2019ll get into shortly none of them is acceptable,\u201d Chutkan said at the start of the hearing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Mr. Trump has the right to prepare, the public has a right to prompt and efficient resolution of this matter,\u201d she added later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In setting the date, Chutkan noted Trump would face trial more than three years from the day a mob of his supporters ransacked the Capitol after attending his rally.<\/p>\n<p>Chutkan at turns criticized both prosecutors and Trump\u2019s legal team for proposing a trial date either too soon or too distant, risking either failing to give a defendant time to prepare or having witnesses\u2019 memories fade.<\/p>\n<p>Chutkan also noted that a trial date \u201ccannot and should not\u201d depend on a defendant\u2019s professional obligations, seemingly nodding to Trump\u2019s third bid to capture the presidency, noting that if a professional athlete were on trial\u00a0 \u201cit would be in<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate to set a trial date to accommodate her schedule.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Though at one point Chutkan criticized Smith\u2019s team for failing to point to large cases that went to trial in the five-month timeline they suggested, her exchanges with Trump attorney John Lauro proved more heated, with the judge telling him twice to \u201ctake the temperature down\u201d as he voiced concerns over the trial date.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Lauro repeatedly referenced his \u201csacred obligation\u201d to diligently represent Trump, and spent much of the time arguing there was simply too much evidence in the case for him to be able to prepare for trial in just a few months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a question of whether or not one man, one U.S. citizen gets a fair trial or not, and I\u2019m telling you, your honor, based on what I\u2019ve seen so far, this is a gargantuan task,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>DEVELOPING<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
