\n Guitarist Tom Morello joined the rest of Twitter<\/a> in piling on a fan who claimed he no longer liked Rage Against the Machine since they\u2019ve become political.<\/p>\n

The fan, Scott Casteneda, seemingly just realized he had been listening to one of the most popular political rock groups all along when he tweeted at Morello Tuesday night to keep his mouth shut.<\/p>\n

\u201cI used to be a fan until your political opinions came out. Music is my sanctuary and the last thing I want to hear is political BS when I\u2019m listening to music,\u201d Casteneda wrote before deleting his account.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I\u2019m concerned you and Pink are completely done. Keep running your mouth and ruining your fan base.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band began trending on the social media site overnight after Morello responded directly to the criticism.<\/p>\n

\u201cScott!! What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN\u2019T contain \u2018political BS\u2019? I need to know so I can delete it from the catalog,\u201d Morello wrote.<\/p>\n

Morello would have to stretch back to the band\u2019s inception, when its debut 1992 album went trip<\/a>le platinum thanks to their hit protest song against police brutality, \u201cKilling in the Name.\u201d The album\u2019s artwork famously featured a photo of a Buddhist monk lighting himself on fire in protest.<\/p>\n

The exchange prompted thousands of replies and jokes referencing the group\u2019s obviously political band name and song titles.<\/p>\n

\u201ci too enjoy the band Rage Alongside The Machine,\u201d Sean Gentille tweeted.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake the Power Back is actually about recharging batteries,\u201d another added, referencing RATM\u2019s 1991 demo track.<\/p>\n

Casteneda attempted to clarify his tweet to the Detroit Metro Times, saying he knew the band was political, but that they had gotten too political for his liking.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand they\u2019ve always been political, but it\u2019s getting worse and worse and worse,\u201d Castaneda told the outlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s where I\u2019m trying to get at. The whole thing is to the point where I\u2019m ready to cancel out Facebook, Twitter, everything else. I don\u2019t even want to listen to this stuff anymore. So, no, I haven\u2019t checked my Twitter account. I rarely go on Twitter.\u201d<\/p>\n
