\n A decision on whether indoor dining can return in New York City will be made by the end of September, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s our responsibility to give them as clear an answer in the month of September as possible of where we\u2019re going,\u201d he said at his daily press briefing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there can be a timeline, if there can be a set of standards for reopening, we need to decide that in the next few weeks and announce it, whether it\u2019s good news<\/a> or bad news.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mayor has dug in his heels on the issue of restarting indoor dining, saying it\u2019s led to an increase of coronavirus cases in other parts of the country \u2014 a point he reiterated on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cA number of states moved ahead with indoor dining and found that it contributed to either their ongoing problem or resurgence,\u201d Hizzoner said. \u201cUnfortunately, what we see around the country, what we see around the world, is there\u2019s a direct connection.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that the issue is \u201cmore profound\u201d with indoor bars and nightclubs but said \u201cindoor restaurants are still sensitive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also working very closely with the state of New York,\u201d de Blasio said. \u201cThe state, like the city, are both taking a very cautious app<\/a>roach here.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo also refused to budge on bringing back indoor dining in the city, saying his focus was on keeping the coronavirus infection rate \u201cunder control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo\u2019s budget director Robert Mujica said there was \u201cno specific metric\u201d on what needed to happen to greenlight the activity.<\/p>\n

Eating inside restaurants has already resumed in every other region in New York state, including Nassau and Suffolk counties, and New Jersey announced it\u2019s bringing it back starting Friday.<\/p>\n

And Nassau County, Long Island, is actively looking to poach diners from the five boroughs.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, de Blasio hinted that indoor dining in the Big Apple wouldn\u2019t resume until there was a COVID-19 vaccine.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
