\n The Tampa Bay Rays didn\u2019t just have a problem with Aroldis Chapman after the flame-throwing closer buzzed Mike Brosseau\u2019s head with a 101-mph fastball behind his head in the ninth inning of the Yankees\u2019 5-3 win Tuesday night at the Stadium.<\/p>\n

While Rays manager Kevin Cash charged afterwards that his team also has \u201ca whole damn stable of pitchers\u201d who throw hard, outfielder Kevin Kiermaier said Yankees\u2019 third-base coach Phil Nevin was an instigator as the benches cleared without incident afterward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe chirping afterwards, Phil Nevin, once again their third base coach, just always being that guy,\u201d Kiermaier said after the game<\/a> via zoom. \u201cThat\u2019s all I\u2019m going to say on that. It is what it is. I\u2019ve said it before, we don\u2019t like them, they don\u2019t like us.\u201d<\/p>\n

That wasn\u2019t all Kiermaier had to say about Nevin, however.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all know with the protocols and what-not this year that there\u2019s not supposed to be any bench-clearing brawls or benches clearing by any means. The umpires, they voiced that when they were in-between us,\u201d Kiermaier said. \u201cJust the way I saw it was Brosseau struck out and the game is over, and once again, it\u2019s just the same people over there chirping, just trying to stir the pot and whatever.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s just a tired act, a couple of their guys over there just nonstop. But like I said, I\u2019m gonna say it once again, they don\u2019t like us, we don\u2019t like them and it\u2019s gonna be easy for emotions to get higher, people sitting here voicing their opinions. It\u2019s a part of the game, always has been, always will. But we move on, and we\u2019ll try to win the series<\/a> (Wednesday).\u201d<\/p>\n

Yankees manager Aaron Boone clearly took Cash\u2019s post-game comments as a threat for further escalation of the bad blood and headhunting accusations between the teams that dates back several years, calling his counterpart\u2019s words \u201cscary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cash, who was ejected after Chapman\u2019s wild pitch to Brosseau, also was angry that Masahiro Tanaka had plunked Joey Wendle in the first inning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how close that pitch to Brosseau\u2019s head was for Chapman, but it was 99 miles per hour and that\u2019s not the way to do it,\u201d Kiermaier said. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it got away, I don\u2019t know if there\u2019s intent, who knows?<\/p>\n

\u201cBut once again, we don\u2019t like them, they don\u2019t us. It is what it is. But the same guys over there are chirping, always trying to be all macho, I don\u2019t know, get attention, whatever you want to call it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked why he believes such animosity has not subsided, Kiermaier also took a dig at the Yankees\u2019 2-7 record this season against the first-place Rays, who lead the AL East by 3.5 games entering Wednesday\u2019s series finale.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the years, we\u2019ve both kind of gone back and forth with hitting guys, some with intent, some not,\u201d Kiermaier said. \u201cBut I think this year, we have their number and we\u2019ve played very well against them. We\u2019ve beat \u2018em time and time again and maybe that frustrates them, I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019d like to think that is the reason, and it\u2019s easy to get mad over certain things like that. That\u2019s my opinion, but who knows? So we\u2019ll try to come out (Wednesday) and win another series against them and be happ<\/a>y with just that.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
