Greg Abbott (R) in June. It rules that any person found guilty of intoxicated manslaughter must pay child support if the victim had a child, to an amount determined by a judge.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Nicknamed \u201cBentley\u2019s Law,\u201d the provision is being pushed in multiple states nationwide, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.khou.com\/article\/news\/local\/as-seen-on-tv\/more-than-20-states-considering-bentleys-law-dui\/63-3dc547a9-ab0b-4ccc-8d4f-f01023071f33\">started by a Missouri woman<\/a> who lost her son, daughter-in-law and grandchild in a drunk driving crash in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Those who can\u2019t pay will be given payment plans, with those in prison forced to pay the support within the first year after release.<\/p>\n<p>An intoxicated manslaughter can carry a penalty of up to 20 years in prison in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott said he was \u201cproud\u201d to sign the bill earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny time a parent passes is tragic, but a death at the hands of a drunk driver is especially heinous,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1683893520447176704?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee was the first state to pass a similar measure last year, and it is being considered in about 20 more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
