Only one person was vaccinated for Neisseria meningitidis type Y out of the 27 reported cases.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_C14E435D-5626-449A-A857-5736660BA585@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      \u201cThis development is three times the expected number of cases during this time period,\u201d the department said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> release Wednesday.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_35FDE64C-FA42-D4CE-BAB1-5736660BAC1A@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The strain associated with this outbreak is known to be circulating more widely in the United States, according to the Virginia Health Department.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_9F8CC2E5-103B-817F-B0C9-57366610E727@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Most of the cases are in residents of eastern Virginia, where a regional outbreak was<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vdh.virginia.gov\/clinicians\/meningococcal-outbreak-in-eastern-region\/\"> first announced in September 2022<\/a>, according to the release. The infection can lead to both meningitis and a serious infection of the bloodstream called septicemia, or blood poisoning.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_B434BF70-7E49-B691-C8E9-5736661A3293@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      The bacteria can spread from person to person through the exchange of respiratory and throat secretions, and typically occurs via kissing, coughing, sneezing or living in close contact with others who are infected.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_0278B026-105A-12DA-7CD7-5736661F370D@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Symptoms can mimic the flu or Covid-19 and include a headache, fever, nausea or vomiting, brain fog, sensitivity to light, sleepiness or trouble waking, a stiff neck and possibly a skin rash.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_79D7105F-0870-8798-B7F5-5736661FE905@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      Health experts say anyone experiencing related symptoms should get treatment quickly.\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/paragraph_F768E5F8-BA02-8CB3-CE32-57366624C8A1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n      \u201cDoctors treat bacterial meningitis with a number of antibiotics.
