{"id":589635,"date":"2023-09-03T06:46:33","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T03:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/mccarthy-travels-to-maui-after-deadly-wildfires-sheer-devastation\/"},"modified":"2023-09-03T06:46:33","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T03:46:33","slug":"mccarthy-travels-to-maui-after-deadly-wildfires-sheer-devastation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/mccarthy-travels-to-maui-after-deadly-wildfires-sheer-devastation\/","title":{"rendered":"#McCarthy travels to Maui after deadly wildfires: \u2018Sheer devastation\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/AP23200787413996-e1693707953407.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Saturday <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed to Maui to tour the areas affected by the recent wildfires that killed at least 115 people, calling it \u201csheer devastation\u201d and vowing to help the island rebuild.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been fortunate enough to be able to come here with my family many times before. And knowing that area, spending time there in the restaurants down by the tree, and knowing how much that meant to everyone, and seeing how can we make sure we find all those who are still lost? And how do we rebuild?\u201d McCarthy said during a press conference. \u201cThat\u2019s the important part of why we\u2019re here. We want to make sure we do it in the right manner. We want to work with the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe want to get the resources to individuals that could rebuild their life, we\u2019ve got to focus on the children for the schools, get them back into the education so they don\u2019t miss out,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also took time to thank the residents of Maui that helped their neighbors and others escape from the fires, calling them \u201cheroes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there are a lot of heroes out there and individuals who brought their own boats, people that helped pull other people out to get them out of harm\u2019s way,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want to make sure that we honor those individuals too. You know, in every devastation in America, they\u2019re tragic, but at the same time, it does show when you\u2026 look deep down the caringness of individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He explained that there are two main goals for recovery of the Island: working together in unity to rebuild and showing respect to the heritage of the area and the lives lost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might not be as fast as everybody likes, but we want to make sure it\u2019s protected,\u201d McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will investigate to find out why did it h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en, what went right, what went wrong, so other communities won\u2019t ever have to see this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The House Oversight and Accountability Committee announced last week that it would move forward with an investigation into the federal response on Maui \u2014 a plan originally floated by McCarthy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very concerned about the response,\u201d the Speaker said at the time. \u201cHow could you lose that many Americans in today\u2019s age? I\u2019m going to be working with committees to investigate what went on so this never happens again.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Biden \u2014 who also visited the Hawaiian island last week \u2014\u00a0said he would welcome the probe, adding that the House GOP \u201cshould go out and talk to every elected official, from the mayors, to the governors, to United States senators\u201d about the situation in Maui.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Asked on Saturday about when Hawaii residents could expect the probe, McCarthy said he didn\u2019t \u201cwant to put a timetable on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now we\u2019ve got to get the facts on a lot of different areas. And so we will be gathering that information. I would like to get a lot of that more input in,\u201d he said. \u201cIt would be a bipartisan way to look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was joined in Maui by a bipartisan delegation, including Hawaii Reps. Ed Case (D) and Jill Tokuda (D), as well as Reps. David Joyce (R-Ohio), Russ Fulcher (R-Idaho) and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m in Hawaii right now with a bipartisan group of lawmakers because tragedies unite us as Americans,\u201d McCarthy <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1698147931243655325\">posted on X<\/a>, the platform formerly known as <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, prior to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> conference. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t a place for partisan politics,\u201d he added. \u201cIt is a place to say thank you to the first responders and to act quickly for the survivors as they rebuild after the deadly fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
