As Ramaswamy continued talking, Hasan repeated the question, \u201cWhat did Donald Trump do, in your view, that was downright abhorrent? Second time I\u2019m asking the question.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the thing that I would have done differently if I were in his shoes,\u201d Ramaswamy replied before Hasan interrupted, \u201cThat\u2019s not what I asked Vivek, with respect.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/aside>\nRamaswamy continued with his point when Hasan cut in, \u201cThat\u2019s not what I asked, with respect. I\u2019ll ask it a third time \u2013 What did Trump do that was\u00a0egregious, quote downright abhorrent and a danger to Democracy? Can you just explain to our viewers, your words?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you\u2019re mixing two different quotes, but what did I think was reprehensible about what happened that day?\u201d Ramaswamy responded, explaining he would \u201chave done things differently\u201d on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand, you keep saying what you would have done, I just want to hear from your mouth. Unless you\u2019re scared of him \u2014 why won\u2019t you say what he did that was \u2018downright abhorrent,\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/aside>\nRamaswamy said he would not let Hasan \u201cstitch together three things from different places to create a caricature.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

That is why I\u2019m in this race, is to do things differently than any prior president has done them. That\u2019s the hard truth,\u201d Ramaswamy answered.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Ramaswamy has accused the media<\/a> in recent weeks of misquoting him, most notably\u00a0when he claimed\u00a0The Atlantic misquoted him in an article where he appeared to float a conspiracy about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\nDuring last month\u2019s GOP primary debate, Ramaswamy stood apart as the only candidate to defend the former president, calling him the \u201cbest president of the 21st century.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/aside>\nRepublican presidential candidate Chris Christie targeted Ramaswamy\u2019s past comments about Trump during the debate, claiming\u00a0Ramaswamy \u201chad much different things to say\u201d about Trump in his book than on the debate stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Christie\u00a0later called\u00a0Ramaswamy the \u201cworst of what politicians are characterized to be.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone who says one thing, does another, and then when you call them, like I did, on the negative things he said about Donald Trump on Jan. 6 in his book, he didn\u2019t say it,\u201d Christie said last month in an interview on CBS\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
