Lil Nas X hasn\u2019t been able to enjoy the advanced buzz around his documentary, Long Live Montero<\/em>, thanks to a bomb threat made against him at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).<\/p>\n

Variety<\/a><\/em> was the first to report that the threat happ<\/a>ened on Saturday (September 9), and it came in as the \u201cMontero\u201d rapper was about to walk the red carpet at the premiere. A source close to the situation told Variety<\/em> that the threat was directed at Lil Nas X due to his Blackness and his sexuality, specifically targeting him as a Black queer artist. However, representatives for TIFF had a different take.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier this evening, we were made aware by the Toronto Police Service of an investigation in the vicinity of the red carpet for the \u2018Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero\u2019 screening,\u201d said a spokesperson for the Toronto International Film Festival, to Variety<\/em>. \u201cOur standard security measures remained in place during this time and the screening commenced with a slight delay. To our knowledge, this was a general<\/a> threat and not directed at the film or the artist.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Lil Nas X has now ventured into the world of documentary filmmaking, he wasn\u2019t always keen on hopping in front of the camera as a subject \u2014 or an actor.<\/p>\n

Back in 2021, during a telling cover story with\u00a0<\/span>Variety<\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0for their Young Hollywood issue, Lil Nas X revealed he was offered a role on\u00a0<\/span>Drake\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0HBO hit show\u00a0<\/span>Euphoria<\/span><\/em>. Unfortunately, the \u201cOld Town Road\u201d rapper had to choose between starring in the show or working on his then <\/span>upcoming album\u00a0<\/span>Montero<\/span><\/em>, and Lil Nas X chose the latter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was actually going to do \u2018Euphoria,\u2019 but I didn\u2019t want to take time from finishing my album,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was going to be great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, the 22-year-old explained he wants to follow in the steps of artists such as Lady Gaga and\u00a0<\/span>Beyonc\u00e9<\/span>, who have successfully crossed over into the film space.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I want to dabble around in a lot of things like I do in music,\u201d he said, before listing some movies<\/a> he\u2019d like to do. \u201cA Star is Born<\/em>. Let\u2019s also do a\u00a0Grown Ups 2<\/em>. Let\u2019s do an\u00a0Obsessed<\/em>\u00a0with Beyonc\u00e9. Maybe we claim the sequel. We do the gay version of\u00a0Obsessed<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
