{"id":590663,"date":"2023-09-11T02:04:47","date_gmt":"2023-09-10T23:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/spanish-soccer-president-resigns-after-unwanted-kiss\/"},"modified":"2023-09-11T02:04:47","modified_gmt":"2023-09-10T23:04:47","slug":"spanish-soccer-president-resigns-after-unwanted-kiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/spanish-soccer-president-resigns-after-unwanted-kiss\/","title":{"rendered":"#Spanish soccer president resigns after unwanted kiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/AP22325392869990-1.jpeg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Luis Rubiales announced that he has resigned from his position as the president of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Royal_Spanish_Football_Federation\">Royal Spanish Football Federation<\/a> (RFEF) after receiving backlash for kissing a star player on the lips without her consent during the team\u2019s World Cup ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, I notified the interim president at 930 pm, Mr. Pedro Rocha, that I have resigned as President of RFEF,\u201d Rubiales said in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LuisRubiales17\/status\/1700961036226965991?s=20\">a post on X<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> platform formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday, also sharing that he resigned from his position as vice president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI have also informed him that I have done the same with my position at UEFA, so that a replacement for my role as vice president can be sought,\u201d Rubiales said. \u201cAfter the suspension by FIFA, in addition to the rest of the proceedings against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubiales also said that the reason he stepped down from his position was in an effort to not risk RFEF and Spain\u2019s bid to host the World Cup in 2030, adding that now he\u2019ll spend time defending his name against \u201cexcessive persecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have faith in the truth and I will do everything when it\u2019s in my hands so that it prevails,\u201d he wrote. \u201cMy daughters, my family and the people that love me have suffered the effects of an excessive persecution, as well as many falsehoods, but it\u2019s also true that in the street, every day more, the truth is being imposed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubiales\u2019 resignation comes less than a month after he received massive criticism for his gesture toward Spain\u2019s national team forward Jenni Hermoso. Rubiales planted an unwanted kiss on Hermoso during an awards ceremony after Spain defeated England to win the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup on Aug. 20.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The aftermath from the incident saw FIFA, soccer\u2019s governing body, suspend Rubiales as an investigation was launched in the matter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Spanish prosecutors filed a complaint against Rubiales, accusing him of sexual assault, just days after Hermoso herself filed a complaint against the former Spanish soccer head.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
