{"id":590786,"date":"2023-09-12T01:02:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T22:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/texas-impeachment-ex-paxton-aide-addresses-his-alleged-affair\/"},"modified":"2023-09-12T01:02:16","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T22:02:16","slug":"texas-impeachment-ex-paxton-aide-addresses-his-alleged-affair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/texas-impeachment-ex-paxton-aide-addresses-his-alleged-affair\/","title":{"rendered":"#Texas impeachment: Ex-Paxton aide addresses his alleged affair\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/carykatherinemissyminter_09112023ap.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The former chief of staff in Texas Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Ken Paxton\u2019s office testified on Monday about the top law enforcement officer\u2019s alleged affair as his historic impeachment trial continues into its second week.<\/p>\n<p>Katherine \u201cMissy\u201d Minter Cary recalled giving Paxton \u201cethics advice\u201d about the risks of an extramarital affair and warned that the office morale was being affected by his actions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe ethics advice in 2018 was that when you try to keep things secret, and you\u2019re a statewide elected official who\u2019s running for office, that they could be both ethically, legally and morally challenging, and that it was beginning to bleed over into the office,\u201d Cary said on the stand, adding that she gave \u201cidentical advice\u201d the following year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Paxton, who is married to state Sen.\u00a0Angela Paxton (R), pleaded not guilty last week to multiple charges related to allegations that he abused his office to help real estate developer Nate Paul. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Cary\u2019s account, Paxton initially admitted to having an affair but did not share the identity of his partner. Cary said she later learned the woman Paxton was having an affair with was Laura Olsen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Mateer, Paxton\u2019s former second-in-command, testified last week that <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> that Paul had given Olsen a job helped explain why Paxton was \u201cengaging in all these activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cary said on Monday she told Paxton that it \u201cwasn\u2019t my business who he was sleeping with,\u201d but that \u201cwhen things boiled over into the office and into the state work, that it had become my business and that I was having concerns about how the time and the effort of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> aides, the security detail, and myself was being spent.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Paxton stormed off after that conversation, according to her testimony. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThese things can open one up to bribery, misuse of office, misuse of state time, things like that,\u201d Cary said of the alleged affair at another point during her time on the witness stand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Monday marked the fifth day of the impeachment trial, and witness testimony is expected to continue over the next few days.
