\n Shia LaBeouf\u2019s stage debut in the world premiere of David Mamet\u2019s Henry Johnson<\/em> is extending its run. <\/p>\n

\n The play, directed by The L Word: Generation Q<\/em> showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan, will now close on Oct. 7 \u2014 two weeks after its original four-week run was expected to conclude on Sept. 24 \u2014\u00a0at The Electric Lodge<\/a> in\u00a0Venice, California. <\/p>\n

\n In a statement posted to X<\/a>, the platform formerly known as Twitter<\/a>, LaBeouf shared that he was \u201coverjoyed to be involved\u201d in the production. \u201cThe dedication of my dance partners is inspiring. The play is starting to pull us now,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

\n The play follows \u201cthe plight of a man after an act of compassion upends his life,\u201d according to the production. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with David Mamet. His talent and creativity are unparalleled, and it is truly an honor to collaborate with arguably our greatest living playwright,\u201d LaBeouf said in a statement. <\/p>\n

\n In a statement ahead of the show\u2019s opening, LaBeouf called the production from the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright a \u201cunique and compelling story\u201d that \u201chas not only inspired me but has also pushed me to grow as a performer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWorking with these artists has deepened my app<\/a>reciation for the power of storytelling,\u201d the actor added. \u201cI am immensely thankful for the chance to learn from and build with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Ryan \u2014\u00a0who said in her own statement that she treasures \u201cevery part of it\u201d and that the production is \u201clike a homecoming\u201d \u2014\u00a0recently discussed helming the show in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, telling reporter Lesley Goldberg that she was returning to her theater roots. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI emailed one of my mentors, David Mamet, to see if he had any plays, and I\u2019m directing and producing one,\u00a0Henry Johnson<\/em>. He provides cast and funding, I do all the manual labor. It\u2019s just the two of us,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt\u2019s a very different feeling after being in TV for a few years, and it feels good to be shaping something.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n The cast also features Academy Award nominee, David Paymer, Mamet\u2019s frequent collaborator Dominic Hoffman and Broadway star Evan Jonigkeit in the show\u2019s titular role. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cConstantin Stanislavski wrote that any director who does something interesting with the text does not understand the text,\u201d Mamet said of the play, before speaking to Ryan\u2019s direction. \u201cMost stage directors are only English teachers with a stage manager to bring them tea while they confuse the actors. God forgive them, and may God bless Ms. Ryan.\u201d<\/p>\n
