{"id":591227,"date":"2023-09-15T07:01:41","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T04:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/uaw-on-strike-after-union-negotiations-with-big-three-fail\/"},"modified":"2023-09-15T07:01:41","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T04:01:41","slug":"uaw-on-strike-after-union-negotiations-with-big-three-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/uaw-on-strike-after-union-negotiations-with-big-three-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"#UAW on strike after union negotiations with Big Three fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/09\/AP23255862461500-e1694719927683.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Autoworkers launched a historic strike on Ford, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Motors and Stellantis early Friday morning after union negotiations failed.<\/p>\n<p>The United Auto Workers and the \u201cBig Three\u201d carmakers failed to reach an agreement before the workers\u2019 contracts expired at midnight, triggering the first simultaneous strike by UAW workers against all three auto giants.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The economic cost of an all-out 10-day strike against all three Detroit auto giants could top $5 billion, according to an August <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.andersoneconomicgroup.com\/10-day-uaw-strike-against-big-three-could-cause-economic-losses-exceeding-5-billion\/\">study<\/a> by the Michigan-based Anderson Economic Group.<\/p>\n<p>An overwhelming majority of the UAW members at the Big Three voted last month to authorize a strike if the union and automakers failed to reach a \u201cfair deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not all workers are slated to strike at once.<\/p>\n<p>During a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fb.watch\/n3tYwy6PSM\/\">Facebook Live event<\/a> less than two hours before the deadline, UAW President Shawn Fain called on three facilities to kick off the \u201cstand up strike\u201d at midnight if a deal wasn\u2019t reached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis strategy will keep the companies guessing. It will give our national negotiators maximum leverage and flexibility in bargaining, and if we need to go all out, we will. Everything is on the table,\u201d Fain said.<\/p>\n<p>The union is asking<strong> <\/strong>for higher wages, shorter work weeks, union representation for battery plant workers and better retirement benefits, including restored pensions for new hires.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Company profits and CEO compensation have skyrocketed, even as the union says employee wages have not kept up with inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Profits at the Big Three collectively ballooned 92 percent from 2013 to 2022, totaling $250 billion, according to an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epi.org\/blog\/uaw-automakers-negotiations\/\">analysis<\/a> by the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute released Tuesday.
