He refused to take a side on contract negotiations which have devolved into a strike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m on the side of making our country great\u2026 The auto workers are being sold down the river by their leadership, and their leadership should endorse Trump,\u201d Trump said in an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MeetThePress\/status\/1702721602700382431\">NBC News interview<\/a> held before UAW workers began their strike.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>UAW began a strike against the \u201cBig Three\u201d automakers \u2014 Ford, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Motors and Stellantis \u2014 Friday morning, a first in the union\u2019s history. The union is demanding increased wages, shorter work weeks and better retirement benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said federal policies encouraging electric vehicles hurt the workers. The UAW has not endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election, citing hesitation over electric vehicle policies, but has stated it will not endorse Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe auto workers are not going to have any jobs, when you come right down to it,\u201d Trump said. \u201cElectric cars are going to be made in China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump said UAW President Shawn Fain is \u201cnot doing a good job at representing his union.\u201d Fain said he will not support Trump, and that a second Trump term would be a\u00a0\u201cdisaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden administration changes include tax credits for electric vehicles and a proposed rule that two-thirds of all produced vehicles be electric by 2032.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign attacked Trump over similar comments blaming electric vehicle policies on Friday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump will say literally anything to distract from his long record of breaking promises and failing America\u2019s workers,\u201d campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa said. \u201cUnder Trump, autoworkers shuttered their doors and sent American jobs overseas. Under Trump, auto companies would have likely gone bankrupt, devastating the industry and upending millions of lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump has used the electric vehicle attacks before in efforts to court Detroit auto workers to vote for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden is the most pro-union president in history, leading a renewed manufacturing boom, bringing hundreds of thousands of good-paying, union jobs back home.
