John Fetterman\u2019s (D-Pa.) office announced he will drive\u00a0from his home in Pennsylvania to an auto plant outside Detroit on Saturday to join the thousands of striking auto workers on the picket line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know which side I\u2019m on. As long as these brave workers continue to walk the picket line, my entire team and I will have their backs,\u201d the freshman senator <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenFettermanPA\/status\/1702686265462644924\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenFettermanPA\/status\/1702686265462644924\">wrote in a post<\/a> on X, formerly known as <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. \u201cWe will support them any way we can until they reach a fair deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The United Auto Workers (UAW) and the \u201cBig Three\u201d automakers \u2014 Ford, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Motors and Stellantis\u00a0\u2014 failed to reach an agreement before the workers\u2019 contracts\u00a0expired at midnight on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>The union negotiations were centered on pay increases, shorter work weeks, better retirement benefits, career security and concerns about how a shift toward electric vehicles could affect jobs. A majority of the union members agreed to authorize a strike\u00a0if the deadline passed without a deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s time to decide what side you\u2019re on,\u201d Fetterman wrote. \u201cAre you on the side of the Big 3 CEOs who made $74 million last year &amp; are now claiming they can\u2019t afford to pay their workers? Or are you on the side of the [UAW] workers who build the American cars &amp; trucks we Pennsylvanians drive?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Biden, who has campaigned on being pro-union, on Friday acknowledged that the Big Three companies needed to \u201cgo further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe they should go further. \u2026 Record corporate profits, which they have, should be shared by record contracts for the UAW,\u201d Biden said in remarks at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one wants a strike,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I respect workers\u2019 rights to use their options under the collective bargaining system and I understand the workers\u2019 frustration.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Not all workers are slated to strike at once, either.<\/p>\n<p>UAW President Shawn Fain called on three facilities to kick off the \u201cstand up strike\u201d after a deal wasn\u2019t reached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis strategy will keep the companies guessing,\u201d he said during a Facebook Live event shortly after the strike began. \u201cIt will give our national negotiators maximum leverage and flexibility in bargaining, and if we need to go all out, we will.
