Michael McGrath, known for his roles in \u201cSpamalot\u201d and \u201cTootsie\u201d on Broadway, has died, TODAY.com has confirmed. He was 65.<\/p>\n

Over the course of his career, McGrath has app<\/a>eared in more than one dozen stage productions on Broadway from 1992 to 2022, according to Playbill<\/a>. He made his Broadway debut in \u201cMy Favorite Year,\u201d which was followed by roles in \u201cLittle Me,\u201d \u201cMemphis,\u201d \u201cShe Loves Me,\u201d as well as \u201cOn the Twentieth Century.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his most recent Broadway role before his death, he was the standby for three roles in \u201cPlaza Suite\u201d starring Sarah Jessica Parker, including the role of Sam Nash, which was played by Matthew Broderick.<\/p>\n

McGrath earned his first Tony Award nomination in 2005 for best featured actor in a musical for his role as Patsy in \u201cSpamalot.\u201d Less than a decade later in 2012, he earned his second nomination and first win for best actor featured in a musical for his role as Cookie McGee in \u201cNice Work If You Can Get It.\u201d<\/p>\n

His other accolades include two Drama Desk Award nominations for outstanding featured actor in a musical for his roles in \u201cSwinging On A Star\u201d and \u201cSpamalot\u201d and one win for \u201cNice Work If You Can Get It.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to his three-decade long career on Broadway, he appeared in several iterations of \u201cForbidden Broadway\u201d from 1988 to 1996, Playbill<\/a> reported. McGrath also starred in several of productions by New York City Center Encores!, including \u201cDu Barry Was a Lady, \u201cThe Boys From Syracuse,\u201d and \u201cFollies.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outside of his work on Broadway, McGrath served as the sidekick on Martin Short\u2019s talkshow, \u201cThe Martin Short Show,\u201d which ran for one season from 1999 to 2000.<\/p>\n

McGrath is survived by his wife of 30 years, Toni Di Buono, who he met while they co-starred in \u201cForbidden Broadway\u201d in Boston. The couple shared one child, their daughter Katie Claire McGrath.<\/p>\n

The actor’s daughter re-posted several tributes on her Instagram story, including one posted by the St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre, known as The Muny, which read in part<\/a>, \u201cHis comedic spirit, kind heart and devoted work ethic will be forever missed by all those who called him a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also shared a tribute from actor Phil Sloves, who wrote, \u201cThis one hurts on so many levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
