Tommy Tuberville\u2019s (R-Alabama) hold on military promotions Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the defense department is doing is outside the law,\u201d DeSantis said while speaking at the Iowa Faith &amp; Freedom Coalition Town Hall. \u201cThey are breaking, violating the law by funding abortion tourism with tax dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Tuberville\u2019s monthslong holding of over 300 military promotions is in protest against a Pentagon policy reimbursing expenses for service members <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing across state lines for abortions.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019s Saturday comments reiterate his previous stance on the issue, showing he continues to back Tuberville\u2019s protest despite its lengthy timeline. In July, DeSantis criticized the policy when talking to radio host Hugh Hewitt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t,\u201d DeSantis said when asked by Hewitt if he thinks Tuberville should release his hold. \u201cAnd the reason is, the military\u2019s policy is not following U.S. law. They are using tax dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis also said if he became president, he would im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely get rid of the policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can tell you, when I\u2019m president, on day one, that policy goes into the trash can where it belongs,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
