\n Mississippi voters will decide on whether to accept a new state flag with a magnolia to replace one that was shelved for featuring a Confederate battle emblem.<\/p>\n

The new design \u2014 which includes the state flower on a dark blue background \u2014 was app<\/a>roved Wednesday by a flag commission and will appear on the ballot come November.<\/p>\n

The magnolia flag was chosen by the commission out of more than 3,000 designs submitted for competition.<\/p>\n

If voters reject the new design, the process will start over and the state will be without a flag for some more time.<\/p>\n

The commission said it will promote the magnolia design ahead of the November election by calling it the \u201cIn God We Trust\u201d flag.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than any other time in our country, we need the mercy and grace of God,\u201d commission member TJ Taylor said of the name.<\/p>\n

The previous flag with the Confederate battle emblem \u2014 which is widely seen as racist \u2013was retired two months ago during widespread protests over racial injustice.<\/p>\n
