Growing public alarm over leftist violence in the streets likely has something to do with it, but \u201cthe extent to which we are seeing a shift in polls is just as likely to reflect what the actual state of the race has been for some time, which is to say, as close as any election in modern history.\u201d The president\u2019s support has always been somewhat obscured by the \u201cshy-Tory\u201d effect: Voters don\u2019t dare tell pollsters they secretly support Trump. His chances, moreover, \u201chave never been as bad as some people . . . have led themselves to believe.\u201d Indeed, Walther expects Trump to pull \u201canother narrow victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: California\u2019s Ugly New Curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ethnic-studies \u201cmodel curriculum\u201d California is poised to mandate for K-12 kids makes The New York Times\u2019 radical 1619 Project look \u201cmoderate,\u201d warns The Wall Street Journal editorial board. The program aims to build \u201cpossibilities for post-imperial life that promotes [sic] collective narratives of transformative resistance,\u201d says the state Education Department\u2019s Web site. Course outlines seem to require \u201cstudent political activities,\u201d with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved topics\u201d on \u201cracism, LGBTQ rights, immigration rights, access to quality health care, income inequality,\u201d etc. \u2014 raising \u201cFirst Amendment concerns.\u201d One outline \u201ctips its hat\u201d to ideas that \u201cecho anti-Semitic conspiracy theories,\u201d with students writing papers on US events that \u201cled to Jewish and Irish Americans gaining racial privilege.\u201d \u201cModerate\u201d liberals need to read this \u201cugly stuff,\u201d contend the editors; \u201cresponsible statesmen\u201d ought to \u201cstop it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academia watch: Fear in the Faculty Lounge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John McWhorter reports in The Atlantic that he has \u201cbeen receiving missives since May almost daily from professors living in constant fear for their career, because their opinions are incompatible with the current woke playbook\u201d \u2014 including 150 in one three-week period. \u201cI found it alarming how many of the letters sound as if they were written from Stalinist Russia or Maoist China.\u201d A professor who \u201ccommitted the sin of \u2018privileging the white, male perspective\u2019 in giving a lecture on the philosophy\u201d of a Founding Father praised by Frederick Douglass had to \u201csit in a \u2018listening circle,\u2019 in which his job was to stay silent while students \u00adexplained how he had hurt them\u201d \u2014 \u201ca 21st-century-American version of a struggle session straight out of the Cultural Revolution.\u201d Few letter-writers are conservative. \u201cIt is now no longer, \u2018Why aren\u2019t you on the left?\u2019 but \u2018How dare you not be as left as we are.\u2019\u200a\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Security beat: Biden vs. the Intel Consensus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden and other Democrats have long slammed President Trump for ignoring Intelligence Community findings, notes Susan Crabtree at RealClearPolitics, but now \u201cthe shoe is on the other foot for Team Biden,\u201d as Joe (\u201cwith help from the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>\u201d) is \u201cdiscounting major aspects of official intelligence assessments \u2014 especially as they pertain negatively to his campaign.\u201d His problem: The intel community\u2019s top elections analyst has found \u201cMoscow favoring a Trump win and Beijing hoping for his loss,\u201d meaning China wants a Biden win. Biden\u2019s camp claims Trump \u00adappointees are skewing the intelligence, which means that \u201cthe unprecedented distrust of the \u00adintelligence community on both sides will no doubt continue long after the last votes are counted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virus desk: <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> Isn\u2019t Guiding Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local governments from Virginia to California are opening day-care centers in the same buildings they decline to open for actual teaching, notes Erin Hawley at USA Today. Part of it is \u201cthe hypocrisy of the teachers\u2019 unions \u2014 while it\u2019s unsafe for unionized teachers to teach, it\u2019s perfectly fine for usually non-unionized workers to provide child care.\u201d This, despite \u201cgrowing evidence that in-person education is possible,\u201d as kids under 10, especially, are safe.
