Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) weighed in Tuesday on the speakership battle raging on Capitol Hill, noting that he was against Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) \u201cwhen it wasn\u2019t cool\u201d during his time as a congressman.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI opposed McCarthy when it wasn\u2019t cool years ago,\u201d DeSantis<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/scrippsnews\/status\/1709270798999912610?s=20\">\u00a0told Scripps News.\u00a0<\/a>\u201cHe\u2019s really somebody that Donald Trump has backed and put into that position.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAnd so I think that they\u2019ve not delivered results,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think the contrast between Florida, us delivering results, and what you have in Washington is typically failure theater.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis represented Florida in the House from 2013 to 2018 and was a founding member of the conservative Freedom Caucus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis\u2019s comments came before the House voted Tuesday evening to remove McCarthy as speaker. A small group of House Republicans, led by Rep.\u00a0Matt Gaetz\u00a0(R-Fla.), joined with Democrats to oust McCarthy in a 216-210 vote.<\/p>\n<p>The House voted 218-208 earlier Tuesday afternoon against a motion to table Gaetz\u2019s resolution to oust McCarthy, setting up the vote on whether McCarthy should remain speaker.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis did not have praise for the effort to oust McCarthy, instead calling the move \u201cperformative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook this whole movement to do this motion, I think a lot of that is performative,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cI think a lot of that is the typical theatrics we\u2019re used to seeing. I\u2019m not sure how much thought is going into\u00a0that, but I can tell you this, our voters want to see results. We\u2019re sick of the talk. A lot of these DC Republicans have promised all of these things over the years, and then when it comes time, they don\u2019t deliver.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Tuesday marks the first time the House has ever voted to remove a sitting Speaker.
