\n Drew Barrymore is back (again).<\/p>\n

\n The actress-host has set Oct. 16<\/a> as the return date for her eponymous daytime talk show.<\/p>\n

\n After initially announcing, and strongly defending, her show\u2019s plan to return amid the writers strike on Sept. 18, Barrymore (along with those involved with other WGA-covered shows that had planned to return last month despite the strike) received extensive backlash for her decision, with the controversy dominating the strike news<\/a> cycle for days.<\/p>\n

\n The host became a swift target, including from picketers outside of her New York City studio when she attempted to resume production, when she attempted to pre-emptively defend her decision to return without the show\u2019s three striking writers in a Sept. 10 Instagram post.<\/p>\n

\n She doubled down on the return days later with a video that was later deleted before, on Sept. 17, choosing to delay the show\u2019s return until the writers strike ended.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team,\u201d Barrymore wrote in an Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cWe really tried to find our way forward, and I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.\u201d\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n Other shows that employ WGA writers and had planned on a Sept. 18 return \u2014 The Talk<\/em> and The Jennifer Hudson Show<\/em> \u2014 also delayed their premiere dates.<\/p>\n

\n Just a week later, the Writers Guild of America reached a tentative deal with the AMPTP group of studios and streamers and announced an end to the strike. <\/p>\n

\n Now, these daytime talk shows \u2014 many of which are reliant on celebrity guests \u2014 are also moving forward with new return dates, providing good news for broadcast networks starved for new content during the dual Hollywood strikes. <\/p>\n

\n The Talk<\/em> announced earlier this week that it planned to return on Oct. 9, while the Jennifer Hudson Show <\/em>returned on Oct. 2. Also this morning, Kelly Clarkson has announced that she will return with her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>, which also employs WGA writers, from its new New York City location, on Oct. 16.<\/p>\n

\n Clarkson\u2019s show will film its fifth season at NBC Studios\u2019 Studio 6A in New York, with taping set to begin a week prior to air on Oct. 10. Studio 6A was previously the home of the Late Night<\/em> shows hosted by David Letterman, Conan O\u2019Brien and Jimmy Fallon.<\/p>\n

\n Clarkson had previously not set a return date for her show as she was in the process of moving production from Los Angeles to New York.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019m so excited to start our fifth season at the iconic 30 Rock,\u201d Clarkson said. \u201cThere is such a unique energy and creative spirit that comes with filming in New York City. Y\u2019all ready?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n NBCUniversal Entertainment executive vp, syndication studios and E! News, Tracie Wilson, added in a statement: \u201cWe launched the past two season premieres in New York with great success. When the opportunity to bring the show under the same roof as Today<\/em>, [Late Night<\/em> host] Seth [Meyers], Jimmy and SNL<\/em> presented itself, we felt it was the perfect way to re-energize the show going into the fifth season.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n And showrunner Alex Duda said, \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to welcome a vibrant audience to join us in studio. There will be lots of surprises and plenty of giveaways. Kellyoke fans can expect to see Kelly and her band perform impromptu\u00a0duets with our 30 Rock neighbors and talent from Broadway, plus more \u2018Songs & Stories\u2019 episodes with artists such as P!NK, Garth Brooks and Chris Martin. We\u2019ll also do our signature \u2018Good Neighbor\u2019 segment, highlighting everyday people doing extraordinary things in their communities.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n Despite the end of the writers strike, the SAG-AFTRA actors strike continues, with the guild set to resume negotiations with the AMPTP on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\n During the SAG strike, actors who are members of or aspire to become members of the union, remain barred from all promotion, including talk show app<\/a>earances, for future and past projects by struck companies, until their own new deal is reached.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
