\n The latest on Frozen 3<\/em>, thoughts on the upcoming Wish<\/em> and her memories of how watching Cinderella<\/em> helped her when she used to get bullied in school where among the topics Jennifer Lee, Walt Disney Animation Studios\u2019 chief creative officer and\u00a0writer and co-director of the\u00a0Frozen\u00a0<\/em>films, discussed in London on Thursday. <\/p>\n

\n In a BFI London Film Festival Spotlight talk at the Picturehouse Central cinema in the British capital during the Walt Disney Co.\u2019s centennial year, she was asked about what she could say about more Frozen<\/em> coming in the future. \u201cEvery morning last week they carved out space for me to work with the creative team on it. And I\u2019m blown away, and I\u2019m so excited,\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n

\n For now at least, her role on the film is \u201cdoing what I do now, which is we work on every project as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Lee is also a writer and executive producer on Wish<\/em>, the story of how Disney\u2019s wishing star came to be, directed by Chris Buck\u00a0(Frozen<\/em>) and\u00a0Fawn Veerasunthorn. It features original songs by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Julia Michaels. But in a case similar to Encanto<\/em>, the studio will have to decide what song or songs to enter for Oscar consideration by Nov. 1, ahead of the movie\u2019s release date. That could lead to a repeat of Encanto<\/em>, for which the ballad \u201cDos Oruguitas\u201d got an Oscar nomination, but \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk About Bruno\u201d \u2014 which went on to become the studio\u2019s biggest hit ever from a movie, sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks \u2014 did not.<\/p>\n

\n Lee said Chris Pine brought a lot to the Wish villain, Magnifico, explaining the character was probably the most detailed bad guy in a Disney film ever. No other villain has ever gone on \u201cthis expansive\u201d a journey, she suggested.<\/p>\n

\n Lee also discussed being bullied in school and how watching Cinderella<\/em> helped her back then. \u201cIn middle school, I was very severely bullied,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI had a very, very difficult three years, and I would come home and put Cinderella<\/em> on when I would do homework, because to me, it seemed like she was so mistreated and she held on to herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Added Lee: \u201cFor anyone who\u2019s gone through that, it\u2019s hard. You believe the noise, and she never did. \u2026 For a lot of us probably Disney was an escape, but it was also someplace telling you that there was always something better to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Addressing the importance of making films timely in the current age, she said Disney was aiming for both timeliness and timelessness in its animation work.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
