kind of guy. Every day I&#8217;m bombarded with emails and I only ever click on the ones I absolutely need. My <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to new music isn&#8217;t too far off. I&#8217;d rather spend my time listening to one album I love than 10 albums that are Pretty Good. 2023 has been artistically light on rap blockbusters and fiscally tough on independent artists (everything seems <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ethangach\/status\/1709588666216018411?s=20\">totally fine<\/a> over at Bandcamp), but hip-hop is anything but dead, and there\u2019s no shortage of good rap out there. Here are just four of 2023&#8217;s most exciting rap EPs, mixtapes, and albums full of vital, living music.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254782\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<h5 class=\"headline\" style=\"margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Babyxsosa_BLING_BLING_EP\"><\/span>\n        Babyxsosa, <b><i>BLING BLING EP<\/i><br \/>\n      <\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            To a cultured minority of Surf Gang diehards, TikTok initiates, and SoundCloud connoisseurs, Babyxsosa\u2019s long-fabled debut has become a legend on par with <i>Playboicarti<\/i>. The Richmond, VA, rapper\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eSELe-0jb-E\">songs<\/a> are vividly evocative, though her penchant for randomly uploading new\/old loosies to streaming platforms \u2014 and she can be just as mercurial when it comes to <i>un<\/i>releasing music \u2014 certainly helps with the mythmaking. Though, seriously: she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5aJpX3PxxAM\">rocks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            July\u2019s <i>BLING BLING EP<\/i> was an ankle-breaking pump fake, switching out whipped meringue pluggnb production and clear-toned arias for gothic industrial beats and rougher-voiced yowls. Here, the punishing rhythm of \u201cBLINGBLINGCEO\u201d is pure hardcore gabber, sweatslick and fog machine humid. But the real gem is \u201cX&amp;O 127 BLING,\u201d a lurching runway walk from the Uber Black past the doorman and coat check straight to the loudest spot in front of the DJ booth. \u201cPlease don&#8217;t touch me\/I ride in fast cars,\u201d she sniffs. \u201cMy ex-boyfriend called\/I might star six nine.\u201d It reminds me of <i>The Fame Monster<\/i>-era Lady Gaga, a vampy take on outsize club music from a woman who could die happily on the dancefloor. Here\u2019s hoping Babyxsosa never pulls <i>BLING BLING EP<\/i> off streaming.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254786\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<h5 class=\"headline\" style=\"margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kura_Pierre_Bourne_Born_Seditionary\"><\/span>\n        <b>Kura &amp; Pi\u2019erre Bourne<\/b>, <i>Born Seditionary<\/i><br \/>\n      <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            \u201cWhite teenager from Detroit raps about fast cars and self-belief over Pi\u2019erre Bourne production\u201d shouldn\u2019t work, but on <i>Born Seditionary<\/i>, it does. That\u2019s thanks in no small part to Kura embodying some of Bourne\u2019s best qualities as a rapper, in particular his ear for melody and penchant for crisp, direct imagery. Refracted through Kura\u2019s youthful jouissance, flexes and feelings alike feel sincere and lived in despite his age.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Bourne\u2019s work behind the boards here veers from warp drive synths (\u201cArriving\u201d) through gravelly rap-rock hybridization (\u201cBachelor\u201d), pogo stick 808s (\u201cWaves\u201d), and iridescent pop rap (\u201cSaving Grace\u201d). Kura\u2019s flows snake fluidly through the terrain whether rifling through bars with fellow Sosshouse-signee Chavo on \u201cBapes\u201d or crooning over the dusk dreamscape of \u201cSwitch.\u201d Amidst the obliterative 808s of \u201cWidebody Kit,\u201d he notices the \u201cneon green paint on the calipers\u201d of a jailbroken Hellcat.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254787\" class=\"content_block paragraph video triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kura - Hold It Up (Produced by Pi&#039;erre Bourne) [Official Video]\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dbdQTomsuFA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('254787');\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254788\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            On \u201cHold It Up,\u201d Kura goes totally motivational anthemic: \u201cif you dream and know what you want there ain\u2019t no holding back.\u201d Easy enough for an earnest 19-year-old to say, but he\u2019s more clear-eyed than it seems, smoothly panning the lens. \u201cMy pops he was scraping on pennies\/worked three jobs just to get by;\u201d \u201cfell down a few times on the way, my guys brush off my back.\u201d Nobody does it all on their own.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254789\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<h5 class=\"headline\" style=\"margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rylo_Rodriguez_Been_One\"><\/span>\n        <b>Rylo Rodriguez<\/b>, <i>Been One<\/i><br \/>\n      <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Two minutes into \u201cDigital Pictures,\u201d Rylo Rodriguez brainstorms baby names. \u201cI\u2019m all about a bank, if I have a son, I\u2019ll name him Chase,\u201d he muses. Lightbulb moment: \u201cI\u2019m all about a bank, if I have a son I\u2019ll name him Zelle!\u201d Just one electric couplet among many on Rylo\u2019s supercharged sophomore studio album <i>Been One<\/i>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            There\u2019s the syrupy storytelling of \u201cOn The Run,\u201d where Rylo\u2019s abraded baritone cuts against a cinematic backdrop of morose piano, helium-voiced harmonies, and a brief, brassy blast of caterwauling trumpet. And the tenebrous thump of \u201cOn Da Floor,\u201d Rylo insouciantly drawling about joining \u201cthe honey bun club\u201d before EST Gee sneers onto the track, wheezing \u201cmy OG used to smoke dirties\/that&#8217;s cocaine inside his weed\/it still fuck with how he breathe.\u201d By the time Lil Baby walks through to dap up his protege on \u201cReal Type,\u201d Rodriguez has already dogwalked the beat up and down the block a few times, decrying the cowardice of drive-by shootings and going through women\u2019s iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>            When the tempo decelerates to a crawl, Rylo makes every syllable count, as when he details a derailed relationship over the incandescent glow of \u201cTaylor Port Junkie.\u201d Or take \u201cRight,\u201d built around a gentle acoustic guitar that wouldn\u2019t sound misplaced on a Fleetwood Mac record (RIP Christine McVie). \u201cIf love-ing you is wrong then I don\u2019t want to be-e riiight,\u201d he quavers, elongate iambic meter like pulling taffy.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-254790\" class=\"content_block paragraph video triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rylo Rodriguez - &quot;Thang for you&quot; ft. His Brinks truck adlibs are less onomatopoeia than Foley effect, beats and vocals alike slathered in rock candy distortion. As for the tape\u2019s highwater mark, I\u2019ve gotta give it to the 57 sublime seconds of \u201cX &amp; Sex,\u201d which ramps up from a frenetic verse before devolving into an endless chant, \u201cX and sex now I got jetlag\u201d ad infinitum until the words lose all meaning, just pure physical phonemes bursting against the tympanic membrane.
