Its technology, born from research at the University of Lyon, is based on a chemical process that uses CO2 to separate different metals in battery cells in order to recover, restore, and reuse them.<\/p>\n<p>Mecaware says that its metal extraction process is not only eco-friendly and cost-effective, but also one of a kind worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>With the fresh capital \u2014 backed by a pool of investors, the French government, and banking partners \u2014 the startup will move towards the industrialisation of its pilot scheme for the recycling of production scrap from battery plants. Sign up now!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>To this end, Mecaware will finalise the installation of its new Technical Centre in Lyon, comprising offices, a factory building, and an R&amp;D laboratory, commencing operations in 2025.<\/span> The company will also double its team, increasing it to 80 people in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Focusing on resource circularity, Mecaware can benefit from (and help tackle) the high rate of scrap produced by battery gigafactories, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capgemini.com\/insights\/expert-perspectives\/the-gigafactory-race-is-on-how-siemens-and-capgemini-accelerate-the-battery-manufacturing-industry\/#:~:text=Today%2C%20far%20too%20many%20gigafactories,pays%20off%20the%20initial%20investment\">estimated<\/a> at above 30% \u2014 especially as Europe increases the number of factories, aiming at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.transportenvironment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/2023_03_Battery_risk_How_not_to_lose_it_all_report.pdf\">over 40<\/a> by 2030. At the same time, an expected<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/theicct.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/recycling-electric-vehicle-batteries-feb-23.pdf\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/theicct.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/recycling-electric-vehicle-batteries-feb-23.pdf\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">12 million tonnes of batteries<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>from BEVs and PHEVs globally will have been retired by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, recycling of critical raw materials like lithium and cobalt could help reduce the EU\u2019s dependence on foreign suppliers, including China and Chile. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/rmis.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/uploads\/CRMs_for_Strategic_Technologies_and_Sectors_in_the_EU_2020.pdf\">According to the European Commission<\/a>, the bloc would need up to 60 times more lithium and 15 times more cobalt to reach climate neutrality by 2050 \u2014 taking into account <em>only<\/em> the e-mobility and renewables sectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Mecaware\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach] makes it possible to secure supplies of raw materials, enabling the strategic independence of our territories to bolster the energy transition, all in compliance with EU Regulations.
