{"id":594343,"date":"2023-10-15T06:18:12","date_gmt":"2023-10-15T03:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/jeff-landry-wins-governors-race\/"},"modified":"2023-10-15T06:18:12","modified_gmt":"2023-10-15T03:18:12","slug":"jeff-landry-wins-governors-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/jeff-landry-wins-governors-race\/","title":{"rendered":"#Jeff Landry wins governor&#8217;s race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/05\/LandryJeff.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Louisiana Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Jeff Landry is projected to win the state\u2019s gubernatorial race, according to The Associated Press, handing Republicans control of the top executive office there for the first time since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Landry competed alongside more than a dozen other people in the jungle primary, in which candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear on the same ballot regardless of party. If no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, the race would have headed to a runoff between the top two vote-getters. But because Landry won more than half the vote as of late Saturday night, he is projected to win the race outright.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>While Landry, a hard-right Republican with the backing of former President Trump, was widely viewed as the favorite heading into Saturday, many political observers expected him to face off against Democrat Shawn Wilson for a second round of voting in November. <\/p>\n<p>His strong showing on Saturday gives the GOP \u2014 and in particular the party\u2019s conservative, populist wing \u2014 a sense of momentum heading into November, where the party is looking to win in two other red-state gubernatorial elections, in Kentucky and Mississippi. <\/p>\n<p>Landry will succeed Gov. John Bel Edwards, the only sitting Democratic governor in the Deep South, who is term-limited. <\/p>\n<p>Wilson, Landry\u2019s chief opponent and a former Transportation secretary, was running to become Louisiana\u2019s first Black statewide elected official since Reconstruction. But observers acknowledged the challenges he faced, especially in regards to voter turnout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocratic turnout has been weak,\u201d Louisiana-based pollster John Couvillon told The Hill earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormally, early voting tends to favor Democrats, and Republicans as of Saturday night cumulatively have a plus-5 lead,\u201d said Couvillon, who usually works with Republicans.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Chief among the warning signs was low turnout among Black voters, a key constituency for Democrats in the Pelican State.<\/p>\n<p>Cliff Albright, co-founder of Black Voters Matter, criticized members of the Democratic Party for not putting more resources into the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s really no discussion, and more importantly, very little lack of investment in voter mobilization,\u201d Albright told The Hill. \u201cThat includes the party itself not putting a lot into this election, which, unfortunately, is a pattern that we\u2019re seeing in Southern states in general and particularly in states that have Black candidates.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
