{"id":594569,"date":"2023-10-16T17:41:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-16T14:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/trump-sues-ex-spy-over-dossier-citing-shocking-and-scandalous-claims\/"},"modified":"2023-10-16T17:41:06","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T14:41:06","slug":"trump-sues-ex-spy-over-dossier-citing-shocking-and-scandalous-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/trump-sues-ex-spy-over-dossier-citing-shocking-and-scandalous-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"#Trump sues ex-spy over dossier, citing \u2018shocking and scandalous claims\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/AP23285040664106-e1697118232662.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President Trump is suing the former British spy behind the controversial Steele Dossier that detailed intel on potential links between Trump and Russia, asserting the report contained \u201cshocking and scandalous claims\u201d that were false and harmful to the former president\u2019s reputation. <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers filed suit in Britain against Orbis Business Intelligence, the company founded by Christopher Steele, a former MI6 agent, who published a 35-page dossier including uncorroborated claims that Trump\u2019s campaign and Russian agents conspired to influence the 2016 U.S. election, according to The Associated Press (AP).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Hugh Tomlinson, a lawyer for Trump, who <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared before a judge at London\u2019s High Court on Monday, alleged the company violated British data protection laws and has \u201csuffered personal and reputational damage and distress,\u201d as a result. <\/p>\n<p>The former president has repeatedly claimed the dossier was \u201cfake <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>\u201d and a political witch hunt following the 2016 presidential election. <\/p>\n<p>Steele, who led the Russia desk for MI6 \u2014 formally known as the Secret Intelligence Service \u2014  is looking to have the lawsuit dismissed during two days of hearings at London\u2019s High Court, per The AP\u2019s reports. <\/p>\n<p>Steele\u2019s dossier has since been largely discredited and determined to be funded by Democrats during the 2016 presidential election. Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) settled a campaign finance inquiry last year, agreeing to pay $113,000 in fines stemming from the dossier. <\/p>\n<p>While the dossier itself was not the basis for the FBI\u2019s probe into Trump\u2019s alleged ties to Russia, the report was heavily involved with the investigation led by former special counsel\u00a0Robert Mueller.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Trump continues to fight various legal battles in the United States, including an ongoing civil trial in New York over more than a decade of alleged fraud.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Trump also faces four separate criminal cases over accusations of the mishandling of classified documents after leaving the White House, attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, and hush money payments to cover up an affair. <\/p>\n<p>A federal judge on Monday will hear from Trump\u2019s lawyers and the Justice Department over prosecutors\u2019 request for a \u201cnarrow\u201d gag order that would prohibit Trump from attacking witnesses and those involved in his Jan. 6 election interference case.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Associated Press contributed to this report. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
