Social media<\/a> is in an uproar debating whether a woman who says a date invited her out for drinks was in the right to order almost 50 oysters, some potatoes and crabcakes, in addition to multiple drinks for which he app<\/a>arently later skipped out on paying.<\/p>\n

The woman, who goes by Equana on social media, chose Fontaine\u2019s Oyster Bar in Atlanta as the location for their first date because she \u201cwas coming anyway\u201d and it has \u201cthe best oysters in Atlanta,\u201d she says in the video with 5 million views on TikTok<\/a> and 28 million on X<\/a>, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n

Equana also says in the video that the date had been texting her \u201cfor weeks talking to himself\u201d and she agreed to see him because she \u201cwas bored\u201d and \u201chad time.\u201d Plus, the oysters are only $15 a dozen on Tuesdays, so Equana ordered four dozen (that\u2019s 48 oysters). She also ordered some potatoes and crabcakes.<\/p>\n

Equana says her date excused himself before the bill came and never returned. The date\u2019s explanation via text was that he invited her \u201cout for drinks\u201d and she \u201cordered all that food,\u201d according to a screenshot Equana showed in the video of what she says is their exchange after she texted him asking why he left early without paying. He offered to send her money for just the drinks.<\/p>\n

Social media users ripped into Equana for myriad reasons, including ordering too much, possibly fabricating the story of being on a date (some think she was there alone), not tipping enough and recording on her phone instead of enjoying her date. Some defended her and offered to go to Fontaine\u2019s with her in the future. Others disagreed with both party\u2019s behavior.<\/p>\n

Equana did not immediately respond to TODAY.com\u2019s request for comment. She says in the video that she didn\u2019t plan to order 48 oysters, but they \u201cwere so good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The bill totaled $185 and Equana said in a follow-up video<\/a> that she tipped $15.13 on her card and another $11 in cash, totaling $26.13, which is a 14% tip, roughly.<\/p>\n

Online commenters shared their thoughts on the bivalve bonanza.<\/p>\n

\u201c4 plates of oysters mucous is insanity,\u201d one person said on X.<\/a> \u201cCholesterol and infections.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c48 oysters by anyone is crazy within itself but for the first date?\u201d another person asked on X.<\/a> \u201cThat\u2019s just wild.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe better than me cuz I would\u2019ve left after the second plate,\u201d another critic declared<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorst part about it, is she was just on her phone filming the oysters with the flash on for the whole date. By the 40th \u2018slurrrrppppp\u2019 bro was fed up!\u201d someone else speculated.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cLol her intentions was wrong going into it, so now she have to pay their dues,\u201d one user tweeted<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others speculated that there was no date at all and the whole situation was fabricated. Fontaine\u2019s did not immediately respond to a request for ccomment, but the restaurant confirmed to Rolling Stone<\/a> that employees saw her with a date and the general<\/a> manager, Kelcey Flanagan, told the outlet that the date returned to the table after Equana paid the bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what was said,\u201d the manager said. \u201cBut he popped back in and then they left.\u201d<\/p>\n

The manager added that the amount of oysters Equana ordered was on par with what Fontaine\u2019s usually sees from customers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say, it had been a minute since I had a single female eat that many,\u201d Flanagan said. \u201cBut then, you know, she was eating crackers and things like that. But yeah, she put it away. It\u2019s pretty impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was a cohort of people online who also supported Equana.<\/p>\n

\u201cGirl lmk what tuesdee you\u2019re free, we can put up Kobe numbers in that thang lol,\u201d someone<\/a> said on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not mad at either one of y\u2019all \ud83e\udd23\ud83e\udd23 like I see both sides. I love oysters but also could not imagine someone smacking on them for 10+ mins,\u201d someone commented on her TikTok post.<\/p>\n

Others blamed them both.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh she was dead wrong for that, never should\u2019ve went out with him.. he didn\u2019t have to leave like that though lol he could\u2019ve told her, someone said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t condone either parties actions but on his part why he didn\u2019t just bring some extra for food too cause we do be hungry and babygirl didn\u2019t have to eat all that but at the same time good for her for covering even though she didn\u2019t really have to since he invited her out,\u201d someone chimed in.<\/a><\/p>\n

Most people, though, seemed to side with Equana\u2019s date. <\/p>\n

\u201cOh… so this is why guys don\u2019t do dates anymore. Noted,\u201d one Twitter user said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAyooooooo. She really violated dude for not paying for her meal. She knew better than that. Must\u2019ve catfished him or something,\u201d another person thought<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s just what she gets. Hope she learned a valuable lesson that day,\u201d someone else said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Flanagan hopes people show Equana the same kindness she showed to Fontaine\u2019s workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was nice,\u201d Flanagan said. \u201cI just hope she\u2019s not getting too much flak.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
