\n Saturday Night Live<\/em> decided to chime in on the discussion surrounding SAG-AFTRA\u2019s Halloween costume rules for striking actors.<\/p>\n

\n During one of the comedy show\u2019s sketches, Sarah Sherman app<\/a>eared as SAG president Fran Drescher to stop children from trick-or-treating in costumes from struck movies<\/a> and TV shows.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019m here to teach you how to do Halloween during a strike,\u201d Sherman\u2019s Drescher said to a couple, played by Ego Nwodim and host Nate Bargatze, handing out candy to children. \u201cBecause that would be promoting the companies we\u2019re striking against which makes all of these children a bunch of adorable scab. Run home and change kids before it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Last week, the performers\u2019 union issued guidelines for striking actors ahead of Halloweekend, which prohibits actors from dressing up as popular characters from struck content, such as Barbie and Wednesday Addams, and then posting photos on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n But Sherman\u2019s Drescher had some ideas for costumes that wouldn\u2019t break the rules, including \u201cHarry Potter as described only in the book\u201d or \u201cminor characters from the Bible who have not appeared in any film adaptation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n When Bargatze\u2019s character proceeded to say that the children don\u2019t look happy, Sherman\u2019s Drescher responded, \u201cI know. It\u2019s scary what the movie studios are doing to our children, isn\u2019t it? That\u2019s why we\u2019ve been picketing for 100 days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Sherman\u2019s Drescher continued to share additional costume ideas, adding, \u201cThis year you can\u2019t be Yoda, but you can be Hoda [Kotb, co-anchor of the Today<\/em> show].\u201d<\/p>\n

\n She also explained how many Halloween costumes can be strike-friendly with a few adjustments.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cSay you\u2019re dressed as Wolverine, just drop the claws and voil\u00e0, now you\u2019re any gay guy over 50,\u201d Sherman\u2019s Drescher said. \u201cSay you\u2019re dressed as Mario. All you have to do is put on a chef\u2019s hat and now you\u2019re the guy from the pizza box.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n When one of the children later asked how they could \u201cunderstand something so complicated\u201d since they\u2019re just a little kid, Sherman\u2019s Drescher went on to compare SAG-AFTRA\u2019s negotiations with Hollywood studios to trick-or-treating.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI can explain in terms even a drunk child can understand,\u201d Sherman\u2019s Drescher said. \u201cNegotiating with the studios is a lot like trick-or-treating. You know how you go to the biggest house on the block and all the lights are off and they\u2019re pretending they\u2019re not home? But you can see them through the window eating Kit Kat bars, dozens of Kit Kat bars, billions of Kit Kat bars, record numbers of Kit Kat bars. All us actors are saying is break me off a piece of that Kit Kat bar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The actors\u2019 union has been on strike since July 14 when contract negotiations initially faltered with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This week, SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP resumed talks over a new three-year pact.<\/p>\n

\n Earlier, during the SNL<\/em> cold open, President Joe Biden, played by Mikey Day, was hanging up Halloween decorations in the Oval Office, while chatting about how the world is now a scary place, including \u201cwars, shootings, climate change, everything in the new Britney [Spears] book [The Woman in Me<\/em>].\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Day\u2019s Biden also had a few guests stop by from newly-elected Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, played by Michael Longfellow, to Christopher Walken, who portrayed \u201cThe Spirit of Halloween, the Ghost of All Hallows\u2019 Past.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n On Saturday, comedian Bargatze made his hosting debut on the sketch comedy show, with musical guests, Foo Fighters.<\/p>\n
