Photo by Deborah Cannon.<br \/>\n    <\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"credit\"><br \/>\n      \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-256212\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Old Fire have shared the third single from their forthcoming <i>Iterations<\/i> EP. \u201cMephisto\u201d is a slow-churning sea of synths, strings, and a Rhodes organ, with Bill Callahan\u2019s characteristically soothing vocals floating on its calm surface. \u201cHey, Mac \/ Can you bring that boat back?\u201d he repeats as the instrumental ebbs and flows beneath him, his voice as steady as an ocean liner.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            <i>Iterations<\/i>, due out this Friday, November 3, on Western Vinyl, is the follow-up to Old Fire\u2019s 2022 sophomore album, <i>Voids<\/i>. And \u201cMephisto\u201d is a rework of \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SLmMbl1lKAQ\">Corpus<\/a>,\u201d a single from that LP (also featuring Callahan). In addition to Callahan, the forthcoming record features Joseph Shabason, Emily Cross, Thor Harris, and many others, in keeping with writer-producer John Mark Lapham\u2019s vision of the project as a collaborative effort. <\/p>\n<p>            Watch the visualizer for \u201cMephisto\u201d and read Lapham\u2019s statement on <i>Iterations<\/i> below. I get really immersed in these recordings and keep going until there\u2019s nothing left to work on, and no further directions where these songs can go. As for the alternate versions on this mini album, \u2018Blue Strings\u2019 and \u2018Mephisto,\u2019 I got inspiration while working on the original versions, and knew there was a different way of presenting them. Especially in the case of \u2018Blue Strings\u2019 and its sister track \u2018Blue Star,\u2019 I really wanted to s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> away all the drums and other dynamics and put it into this other, softer, ethereal space. I don\u2019t see this as a remix, it\u2019s just a different chapter for that particular story. Same for Bill\u2019s track \u2018Mephisto\u2019 that was sourced from \u2018Corpus.\u2019 These songs felt like only half the story was told initially, so wanted to flesh out these other iterations, and see where they went. As for the other tracks on the album, these are branches stretching out of the suite that took up the second half of <i>Voids<\/i>. I kept building that suite and taking it to different places, but certainly didn\u2019t want to present a triple album to the label, so opted to hold some back to keep it cohesive.
