\n After news<\/a> broke that \u201cFriends\u201d star Matthew Perry died on Saturday, his co-stars on the iconic sitcom started to pay tribute to the Chandler Bing actor.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we\u2019re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,\u201d Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer wrote in a statement to People<\/a> on Monday. \u201cIn time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty\u2019s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Some of Perry\u2019s scene partners on the show also paid tribute. Maggie Wheeler, who played Chandler\u2019s on-again, off-again girlfriend Janice on the first four seasons of \u201cFriends,\u201d took to Instagram to write, \u201cWhat a loss. The world will miss you Mathew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Paget Brewster, whose \u201cFriends\u201d character Kathy dated Chandler in season 4, took to X to write, \u201cI\u2019m so very sad to hear about Matthew Perry. He was lovely to me on Friends and every time I saw him in the decades after. Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won\u2019t rest in peace though\u2026He\u2019s already too busy making everyone laugh up there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Perry starred on \u201cFriends\u201d for 236 episodes over 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004. His portrayal of Chandler blended a mix of sweetness and sarcasm that made him a fan favorite and a pop culture icon. The actor was one of the core six \u201cFriends\u201d of the title, alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cFriends\u201d was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards, and won for Outstanding Comedy Series<\/a> in 2002. In 2021, the cast got back together for the Max special \u201cFriends: The Reunion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Beyond his \u201cFriends\u201d family, other Hollywood stars such as Mira Sorvino, Josh Charles and Selma Blair paid tribute to Perry, remembering him as a \u201csweet, troubled soul\u201d and a \u201cgreat actor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Outside of \u201cFriends,\u201d Perry starred in series such as 2006\u2019s \u201cStudio 60 on the Sunset Strip<\/a>,\u201d 2012\u2019s \u201cGo On\u201d and a 2015 \u201cOdd Couple\u201d revival, as well as films such as 1997\u2019s \u201cFools Rush In,\u201d 2000\u2019s \u201cThe Whole Nine Yards\u201d and 2009\u2019s \u201c17 Again.\u201d Perry also acted onstage, with credits including 2003\u2019s \u201cSexual Perversity in Chicago\u201d and a 2016 production of \u201cThe End of Longing,\u201d both staged in London.<\/p>\n

\n The actor was very forthcoming about his long struggle with drugs and alcohol, which he documented at length in his 2022 memoir \u201cFriends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
