“#White cop disciplined after arresting black Amazon driver who parked wrong way<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A white Michigan police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after being caught on video arresting a black Amazon driver who parked the wrong way while delivering a package, according to reports.<\/p>\n

The Warren police officer is seen on Facebook<\/a> Live video restraining the driver on the ground on Tuesday afternoon, Fox 2 Detroit reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cI delivered to her,\u201d the unidentified deliveryman says.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can attest to it \u2014 he put the box in my hand,\u201d Diana Gouim adds.<\/p>\n

Jim Michaels, who ordered the package, told WXYZ that the cop was \u201caggressive\u201d in taking the employee to the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom when my sister walked in the house and then walked back out, the cop had him on the ground and cuffed and was calling for back-up,\u201d Michaels said. \u201cIt was so ridiculous over a traffic offense.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe, several of the neighbors, spoke with the officer saying the kid hasn\u2019t done anything and the cop was like well, \u2018He was parked the wrong way.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Backup officers soon arrived at the scene, where they hauled off the 23-year-old driver on Engelman Road.<\/p>\n

Mayor Jim Fouts called on Facebook for the officer to be fired and subject to a criminal probe, Fox 2 Detroit reported.<\/p>\n

But he later deleted the post after speaking with Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer, who recommended felony charges against the driver.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s critical the public understands to not put all police officers and paint them with a broad brush that they\u2019re bad officers,\u201d Dwyer said, according to the WJBK.<\/p>\n

The incident also was captured in dashcam video released by police.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe driver became argumentative and refused multiple requests for his license. In fact, he refused 11 times,\u201d Dwyer said, according to clickondetroit.com. \u201cThe officer took the driver the ground to gain control of him and the situation for everyone\u2019s safety before it escalated further.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a violation of the law if you do not produce your drivers\u2019 license when asked by an officer,\u201d the top cop added, WXYZ reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what started this whole incident, and if he would have just shown his license, he may have gotten a parking ticket or warning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The deliveryman was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer, failure to obey a lawful command and failure to produce a driver\u2019s license, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

He also was issued a citation for parking illegally.<\/p>\n

The cop has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, WXYZ reported.<\/p>\n

In another Facebook post, the mayor said: \u201cI received several phone calls regarding this incident requiring me to make a statement that any type of aggressive behavior is not tolerated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was upset that one individual could possibly besmirch the fine reputation of Warren police officers,\u201d Fouts said.<\/p>\n

Amazon Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Dave Clark said in a tweet that the video was \u201cshocking, unacceptable, and inexcusable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are digging in to support the driver and to ensure there is a proper outcome to this investigation,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The company said in a statement: \u201cAmazon will deploy all necessary resources to investigate the matter with our Delivery Service Provider, as well as to represent and support the driver.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
