Her parents never told her they loved her.<\/p>\n<p>It was part of everyday life to see people dying of starvation on the streets and with no electricity, Park\u2019s life was ensconced in total darkness and freezing cold.<\/p>\n<p>Park is just one of several hundred North Korean defectors who have escaped to the United States after she and her mother fled in 2007 when she was just 13 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Now aged 26, the Chicago woman is a human rights activist and in an interview with The Post this week, described the hell that is growing up in one of the world\u2019s most brutal dictatorships, calling it a modern day Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat you need to know about North Korea is that it\u2019s not like other countries like Iran or Cuba,\u201d she said. \u201cIn those countries, you have some kind of understanding that they are abnormal, they are isolated and the people are not safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut North Korea has been so completely purged from the rest of the world, it\u2019s literally a Hermit Kingdom. When I was growing up there, I didn\u2019t know that I was isolated, I didn\u2019t know that I was praying to a dictator.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16239353\"><img alt=\"North Korean dancers perform in front of portraits of the late leaders, Kim Il Sung (left), and his son Kim Jong Il, at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, North Korea\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>North Korean dancers perform in front of portraits of the late leaders, Kim Il Sung (left), and his son Kim Jong Il, at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, North Korea<\/span><span>AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As children, Park and her sister were taught that the late supreme leader Kim Jong Il and his son Kim Jong Un were gods that had the power to read people\u2019s thoughts, making everyday citizens too afraid to speak or think ill of the brutal tyrants.<\/p>\n<p>In school, children are taught to count using metrics like \u201cAmerican bastards\u201d and are forced to do \u201ccriticism sessions\u201d where they attack and find faults in their classmates, sewing mistrust and division.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have friends in North Korea. We only have comrades. Both her uncle and grandmother died from malnutrition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019d see so many people just dying. It was something normal for us to see the dead bodies on the street. It was a normal thing for me. <span>I never thought that was something unusual,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have visited slums in Mumbai, I have visited slums in other countries, but nothing is like North Korea because North Korean starvation, it\u2019s a systematic starvation by a country that chose to starve us,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorth Korea spends billions of dollars to make this nuke test system. They were both sold to Chinese men, with Park\u2019s first owner paying less than $300 for her.<\/p>\n<p>The pair searched hopelessly for Park\u2019s older sister who fled the dictatorship earlier. They managed to smuggle Park\u2019s father across the border but he later died of colon cancer.<\/p>\n<p>With the help of Christian missionaries, Park and her mom fled to Mongolia, crossing the Gobi Desert and eventually finding refuge in South Korea where they were reunited with her sister.<\/p>\n<p>Park continued her education in Seoul before moving to New York City in 2014 where she began speaking out against Kim Jong Un\u2019s regime, at great risk to her own safety. Many of her relatives have dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if they\u2019ve been executed or sent to prison camps, so I\u2019m still not free. Even after I went through all of that to be free, I\u2019m not free to dictators there. So it\u2019s a very emotional thing for me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16239373\"><img alt=\"North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>North Korea\u2019s leader Kim Jong Un<\/span><span>REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In an interview with The Post, Park called on the international community to condemn China\u2019s sponsorship of the regime and said her sources in Pyongyang have confirmed that Kim is alive and well despite reports he is in a coma.<\/p>\n<p>he human rights activist has since settled in Chicago where she lives with her husband and young son.<\/p>\n<p>Despite her harrowing story, she is grateful to have been born in North Korea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I hadn\u2019t been born in that oppression and complete darkness, I don\u2019t think I would see the light here.
