{"id":59796,"date":"2020-09-03T20:35:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T17:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/amazon-drivers-are-hanging-smartphones-in-trees-to-beat-competition\/"},"modified":"2020-09-03T20:35:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-03T17:35:00","slug":"amazon-drivers-are-hanging-smartphones-in-trees-to-beat-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/amazon-drivers-are-hanging-smartphones-in-trees-to-beat-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"#Amazon drivers are hanging smartphones in trees to beat competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Amazon drivers are hanging smartphones in trees to beat competition<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-wrapper\" role=\"main\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>        September 3, 2020 <span>|<\/span> 1:35pm         <\/p>\n<div id=\"featured-image-wrapper\">\n                        Enlarge Image<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mobile devices in a tree outside of a Whole Foods store in Evanston, Illinois.\" id=\"standard-article-image\"  src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/09\/amazon-deliveries-74.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=618&#038;h=410&#038;crop=1\" ><\/img><br \/>\n                <span>Mobile devices in a tree outside of a Whole Foods store in Evanston, Illinois.<\/span><br \/>\n                            <span>Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n                        It\u2019s a jungle out there for Amazon delivery drivers \u2014 who have started hanging smartphones in trees next to dispatch stations in the Chicago suburbs to get a leg-up on rivals.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the \u2018green\u2019 new trend, which was also spotted at area Whole Foods, workers go out on a limb to take advantage of proximity-based software used by the firms to dole out delivery gigs, according to Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re gaming the system in a way that makes it harder for Amazon to figure it out,\u201d\u00a0 Chetan Sharma, a wireless industry expert, told the outlet. \u201cThey\u2019re just a step ahead of Amazon\u2019s algorithm and its developers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To get a spit-second jump the competition, the work-starved drivers sync their primary cellphones to a second one, dangle it from a branch and wait nearby, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The low-hanging hack allows them to get assignments before other drivers who may as close as one block away from the company buildings, according to experts and people familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n<p>The work-starved drivers are resorting to the extreme measures \u2014 in some cases to score $15 delivery routes \u2014 amid a coronavirus pandemic-ravaged U.S. economy that\u2019s been hit by a more than 10 percent unemployment rate.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers who aren\u2019t hip to the move have taken to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> to try to dig up dirt on their competitors\u2019 tactics.<\/p>\n<p>Others have complained to Amazon that cheating competitors are rigging the system, prompting a vague response from the company.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16240697\"><img alt=\"Mobile devices in a tree outside of a Whole Foods store in Evanston, Illinois.\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The firm responded that it would investigate but wouldn\u2019t be able to reveal the outcome to its drivers, according to internal emails obtained by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>The firm uses an Uber-like <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> dubbed Amazon Flex that lets drivers, who are paid per delivery, use their own cars and work their own hours. They must secure delivery routes via the app.<\/p>\n<p>At Chicago-area Whole Foods stores where the branch-dangling gadgets were spotted, drivers compete for quick-delivery grocery orders.
