\n Facebook has suspended accounts linked to white nationalist groups amid raging protests against racism and police brutality.<\/p>\n

Some of those accounts urged people to bring weapons to recent demonstrations following last week\u2019s police killing of George Floyd, according to Facebook. The company also took down accounts that falsely claimed to be affiliated with the leftist Antifa movement.<\/p>\n

Some affected accounts had ties to the Proud Boys, the right-wing group that was involved in an Upper East Side brawl in 2018. Others were linked to American Guard, a self-described constitutional nationalist group with \u201ca background with connections to anti-immigrant extremism, hatred, and violence,\u201d according to the Anti-Defamation League.<\/p>\n

Facebook was planning to crack down on both groups but moved faster after discovering how they were talking about the protests, CNN reported.<\/p>\n

Facebook\u2019s move came after Twitter suspended a bogus Antifa account that was reportedly tied to the white nationalist group Identity Evropa. The post falsely claimed that members of the anti-fascist group \u2014 which President Trump has called a terrorist organization \u2014 were planning to \u201cmove into the residential areas\u201d and \u201ctake what\u2019s ours,\u201d according to CNN.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether Facebook has removed any genuine Antifa accounts for making similar threatening posts.<\/p>\n

At least one Facebook staffer has resigned over CEO Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s decision to leave up Trump\u2019s post suggesting looters should be shot. Twitter flagged the message last week, saying it violated rules against glorifying violence.<\/p>\n
