\n Dana Carvey is taking a break from work and social media<\/a>, he announced on Instagram this weekend<\/a>, as he thanked people for their support after the death of his son, Dex, who died Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\n Carvey and his wife Paula Zwagerman said Dex, 32, died of an \u201caccidental drug overdose.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n In an Instagram post Saturday, Dana Carvey said he and Zwagerman \u201chave been overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories, your compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe received so many beautiful messages from people who knew Dex,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThese touched us more than we could ever express in words.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n And now, Carvey said, he will be \u201ctaking a break from work and social media \u2014 trying to figure out what life looks like now that we are a family of 3.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Carvey and Zwagerman have a younger son, Thomas.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cWe will heal the best we can and carry on,\u201d he added. \u201cOur darling Dex would have wanted it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Announcing Dex\u2019s death on X (formerly Twitter), Carvey and Zwagerman said in a signed post, \u201cDex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things \u2014 music, art, filmmaking, comedy \u2014 and pursued all of them passionately.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life,\u201d the post continued. \u201cAnd when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Dex was a comedian who opened for his father\u2019s 2016 Netflix special Straight White Male<\/em> and app<\/a>eared in the 2013 miniseries<\/a> The Funster<\/em> and 2015 movie Joe Dirt 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n Also Saturday, Carvey\u2019s Saturday Night Live<\/em> family appeared to show their support, with \u201cWeekend Update\u201d co-anchor Colin Jost holding up a sign at the end of the show that read \u201cWe love you, Dana and Paula.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
