A parent is someone you become \u2014 so, theoretically, we should all be able to remember the person we were before having kids, to empathize and see things from that perspective. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">But whether it\u2019s a result of exhaustion, overwhelm or the way our brains and identities change so dramatically upon becoming parents, it seems that in many cases, parents do not, in fact, remember what it was like before they had children, and they often end up doing things that drive non-parents up the wall. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>Take \u201cbaby talk,\u201d for example, which has been observed in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themusiclab.org\/infant-directed\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"many different cultures\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"655b8fbce4b0c91d8277f3b7\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.themusiclab.org\/infant-directed\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"1\">many different cultures<\/a>. The way caregivers modulate their tone, cadence and vocabulary when speaking to their children may not sound so cute to other adults in the vicinity. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>In a recent <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=38395X987171&amp;xs=1&amp;xcust=655b8fbce4b0c91d8277f3b7&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreply.com%2Fen%2Fblog%2Fparent-jargon%2F\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"survey\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"655b8fbce4b0c91d8277f3b7\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=38395X987171&amp;xs=1&amp;xcust=655b8fbce4b0c91d8277f3b7&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreply.com%2Fen%2Fblog%2Fparent-jargon%2F\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"2\">survey<\/a> of 977 people who were asked their opinions about baby talk, 69% reported that they found it annoying when parents use baby talk to speak to their children. An almost equal number of future parents (68%) said they did not plan to use baby talk with their kids.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>The survey, conducted by Preply, a company that matches people with language tutors, found that these were the most frequently used baby talk words:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<ol>\n<li>Night-night<\/li>\n<li>Tummy<\/li>\n<li>Binkie<\/li>\n<li>Blankie<\/li>\n<li>Boo boo<\/li>\n<li>Poo poo<\/li>\n<li>Oopsie<\/li>\n<li>Baba<\/li>\n<li>Owie<\/li>\n<li>Ouchie<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>The characteristics of baby talk that respondents found most annoying were speaking at a higher pitch (75%), exaggerating facial expressions (53%) and singing their speech (51%). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>Slipping into baby talk isn\u2019t the only annoying thing that parents do. A different survey of 977 people conducted by the same company found that a majority of non-parents (70%) said they find it annoying when parents continually bring the conversation back to their kids. A similar majority (72%) don\u2019t want to hear any details about your kid\u2019s bodily functions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>There are also a number of phrases parents use that non-parents find annoying, the top offender being, \u201cYou\u2019re not a parent, so you wouldn\u2019t understand,\u201d which 68% identified as a sentence they don\u2019t want to hear, followed by, \u201cYou think you\u2019re tired now, just wait until you have kids!\u201d (51%).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>The survey\u2019s results suggest that parents aren\u2019t the best recruiters for the job. Sixty-two percent of people who plan to have kids said that they are less interested in doing so after talking to a person who is a parent, and 39% said they do not typically enjoy conversations with parents. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>We asked folks on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HuffPostLife\/posts\/pfbid0ficheZEubCLza6uBBkWzjahPUbAMiGKkHjbc7ZWHK9yp2CKk8yYEE12tTSFCiCDol\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"HuffPost Life Facebook page\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"655b8fbce4b0c91d8277f3b7\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HuffPostLife\/posts\/pfbid0ficheZEubCLza6uBBkWzjahPUbAMiGKkHjbc7ZWHK9yp2CKk8yYEE12tTSFCiCDol\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"3\">HuffPost Life Facebook page<\/a> to identify the parent behaviors that bother them most. Some commenters wondered if the question would only lead to more division between parents and non-parents, but we think there\u2019s value in parents hearing the perspective of people who don\u2019t have kids, and vice versa.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p><strong>Here are some of the most annoying things that parents do, in the words of HuffPost readers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"primary-cli cli cli-text \">\n<p>\u201cLetting their children play handheld video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s with the volume on in public places.
